Baby Birds

We got 'em.
Robin babies:
There are actually three.
Carolina Wrens:
We were going to put up the swing then I noticed some serious squawking coming from inside the post. I can't get a picture of the babies but have a couple of Mamma.  She flies in one opening and out the other.  Needless to say, the swing isn't going up for a few weeks.
Do you see her? I believe the nest is just underneath her.
The first batch of baby blue birds died:(  I think with all the rains, the parents couldn't get enough food.  So I set up a feeder with disgusting mealy worms in it, which the birds don't seem to have any interest in.  Not that I blame them. Even though the worms have passed on to their next cycle of life I keep expecting them to wriggle.  They really look alive.   Anyhoo, the blues started rebuilding the day after we cleaned the nest out.  And now both Mr and Mrs are flying in and out on a regular basis, so I think the newbies have hatched.
And the rest of the pictures are just toss ins:)
Did you have a good weekend, buds?

Great photos, especially the new babies and Mama Wren, they do find strange places to make their nests, don't they? I have some small bees which have settled in the hollow spaces of my garden table, but as they leave me alone, they can stay there! Hugs, Valerie

Robin babies? Aw, how precious! We had baby hummingbirds in our yard last year, and they were so darling. That's so sad about those baby blue birds, though...

Ooooh.
And I love Captain Stubby too. I would really, really like to be as flexible as a cat and to be able to relax as they do. I wouldn't say no to their guilt free attitude either.

I have always wanted to get a look at baby birds so I could get a few pictures, but I've never seen any. I always just stay happy about looking at pictures from others. It's almost as good because the story of the birds is fun to read.

Hope those baby birds make it.
Birds build their nests in the oddest places, don't they?

It will be great to see them develop into fledglings and see their first appearance to the big wide world. I can see why your cat is called Captain Stubby. Looks like he has a thick and shedding coat.

If that cat had white feet it wold have been related to one of the old farm cats.I think those wrens may get used to you after a bit, but it looks close to them fledging out of the nest.

I hope Captain Stubby doesn't bother those baby birds.

Love the bird photos. Ink and I watch the birds at the feeder on Bird TV (sun room slider). Love Capt. Stubby

Yes, the babies are quite loud, calling for their parents to feed them. I love wrens, but then I guess I love all birds. Wrens build their nests in the craziest places.

Sandra Cox said...

They sure do, Val. I trust those bees remain passive:)
Have a great one.
Hugs,

Sorry you're getting the deluge but glad the photos helped.

That is a weird place for a nest, hopefully this time they pull on through

The robins were cuties. Little tufts of hair sticking up on their heads:) And it was very sad about the blue bird babies. Hope this batch survives (if they've hatched out. I'm not certain about that.)

Yes, we did have a good weekend. Yesterday, we went to an amusement/water park and had a great time riding everything even though it was quite hot.

I love seeing nest and new birds about, but it is stressful. Because I used to work with birds as a zookeeper, my family expects I can work miracles with baby birds who had fallen out of their nest. Not so! It's tough to see these new beginnings snuffed out, but life goes on.

Our kitty has been snoozing on the back deck as well, on his back, paws sticking up. I'd give anything to go rub his belly, but I'd have to part with too much skin if I tried.

I hear you on the flexibility. I think I'd settle for not being creaky and stiff. grin.

It is fun. I love looking at bird pictures too, Ratty.

Sandra Cox said...

I trust they will. And they sure do build in odd places:)
Happy Monday, Alex.

Oh I love seeing new baby birds and so happy when people don't disturb them. Glad the blue birds have rebuilt their nest and seem to be doing well. My weekend has been resting on Dr's orders but I'm still sick and I know I have to return to work tomorrow and to be frank, I'm a bit scared that I'm not strong enough. I am going to try to walk outside a little today to see how I am.

Sandra Cox said...

Aww. Good choice. They are just the perkiest little birds.

Sandra Cox said...

He does. He also has a stubby, little tail.

Sandra Cox said...

You're right. They fledged today, at least one did. I'll post pics next week.
Tabbies are the best cats. They've got great personalities.

Sandra Cox said...

I'm more concerned about the dog. Back in his heydays maybe, but he's pushing fourteen and spends a lot of time snoozing.

They sure do. It amazes me they built it well enough that it doesn't fall to the bottom of the pole.

Sandra Cox said...

I trust they will, Pat.

I did not realize you were a zookeeper, Tamara! How fun.

You never quite know where birds may build their nests ... hope the babies do well.

Your flowers look very nice.

All the best Jan

We have lots of babies too! I love seeing them flapping their wings and squawking! LOL! I love your photos! Sorry about your baby blue birds! Give kitty hugs from me! The weekend was great, but last night was the best! Hopefully will be making a post soon! Big Hugs!

We had birds build nests on our porch light, year after year. I tried all sorts of things to discourage them, but they didn't mind. Finally, I put a cheese grater on top of aluminum foil. that worked.

I am simply enchanted! I hope Wrennie's babies will be visible (they're in a house!) Love Capt. Stubby! I've seen that look on a cat before!

All so delightful Sandra! (And life in your neck of the woods was very nice indeed! Posts are coming! I do love the Carolinas!)

Sandra Cox said...

Thanks, Jan. I think the robins and wrens did fine. Not sure about the blue birds.....

Sandra Cox said...

I forgot to look for the moon:( Glad you enjoyed it.
