A-Z: Ocicat

This domestic cat was bred to look like a wild cat. It has a spotted coat either blue, lavender, fawn, silver or cinnamon. The Ocicat is big-boned and strong with a long, sleek body.  It's a healthy cat but prone to gingivitis so it's owner needs to brush its teeth regularly.  The Ocicat needs minimal brushing.  It's social and will do best in a lively household. If this is the cat for you, please check your local shelter or rescue, petfinder.com or overstock.com.

A deliberate breeding of a cat to associate with an ocelot? There is a joke beginning, how do you titillate an ocelot. That is probably inappropriate but if people want to know, I am sure google will answer.

That's better than owning an Ocelot as a pet.

Have you ever tried brushing a cat's teeth? We used to have to do that with Spunky. Not a lot of fun.

Hi, dear Sandra!

I was already familiar with the Ocicat prior to reading your post and listening to the vid. A very friendly Ocicat was the very first stray cat to make my home his home more than a dozen years ago. I gave that cat daily food, water and affection. We owned our dog Toto at the time and the two didn't get along. Therefore it was out of the question to try to adopt the Oci and bring him into the house as a real pet. The Oci lived on our property for three or four years and then disappeared, possibly run off by one of the other cats that soon took his place at the food bowl.

Thank you, dear friend Sandra!

So, so pretty and exotic looking!

That is a nice spotted pattern for the fur.

Kudos, Diane. I'm not that brave:)

Sandra Cox said...

You too, dear Valerie.

Hi Rachna,
They are aren't they? Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Alex,
I think Pat has a Savannah, but we'll have to get him to weigh in. I could be mistaken.

Pat Hatt said...

Savannah it is, so no super teeth brushing haha

Pat Hatt said...

Good thing I don't have to brush their teeth, I'd have no hands left here haha

unless done from kittenhood I really wouldn't want to be brushing an adult cat's teeth. Been there, done that, still have the scars to prove it.

Loving this feature, I'd so love a Norwegian Forest Cat

Thank you and thanks for stopping by, Yvonne. Heading your way.

Hi Andrew,
I'm curious, but always leery to googling certain words on the search engines. They bring up really weird stuff. I was once searching info on ranch life for a historical romance and ended up at a really strange site. Still unsure how I got there...:)

Sandra Cox said...

Sounds like you've had several boarders at your shelter for indigent critters. Kudos.

Sandra Cox said...

Very cool. Both that you have a colleague in Sweden and that he/she has an Ocicat.

They do look wild and probably they are quite the wild things in ones home....just like our Kasparov...the disaster

Sandra Cox said...

They sure are:)
How are you, Leandra?

Sandra Cox said...

PS I've got a pet ocelot with silver claws in Vampire Island:) grin.

Sandra Cox said...

I like that pattern too, Tamara!

Sandra Cox said...

Whew. I don't see Orlin or Cassie cozening up to that anymore than mine.

Sandra Cox said...

Right there with ya, Pat;)

Hi Tracy,
You bring up a good point. If it's done as a kitten, they get used to it.

Sandra Cox said...

Kasparov...what a great name.

Sandra Cox said...

They sure do:)

It's like a cat version of The Brady Bunch. Did anyone else make that comment?!

Bleubeard and Elizabeth said...

I have a friend who brushed her dog's teeth every day. I thought she was quite smart after I paid for cleaning Bleubeard's teeth the first time. I think this is an adorable cat, although I've never heard of it before. I'm loving this series!

Elizabeth said...

I like Ocicats :) I've heard of them, but I didn't know the breed was created by accident. I can't imagine trying to brush a cat's teeth!

Sandra Cox said...

Ha! It took me a minute.....

Sandra Cox said...

Good morning, Shortybear. Glad you like them.

Sandra Cox said...

Kudos to your friend. I got to admit I'd have a problem with the dog slobber:)
Glad you're enjoying the series.

Sandra Cox said...

Nor can I, Elizabeth:)

Birgit said...

Oops I hit one too many letters, he's actually Kaspar. I do like the Russian sound to the name though:)
