We watched Monuments Men this weekend. Have you seen it? It's based on the true story of a handful of middle-aged curators, teachers, historians and architects who joined the Monuments, Fine Arts and Archive section of the Allies and recovered thousands of pieces of artworks stolen by the Nazis. Two notables saved were the Bruges Madonna and the Ghent alterpiece by Jan van Eyck.
The movie was well done and had an allstar cast: George Clooney, Bill Murray, Matt Damon, Cate Blanchette, Jean Dujardin, John Goodman, Hugh Bonneville, and Bob Balaban. If you saw it let me know what you thought of it.

I'm scared to watch it, because last time I watched Clooney and my dearest Blanchett in GOOD GERMAN, Clooney has ruined all her outstanding efforts with his wannabe acting and lack of depth :((
Saw the trailer, looked interesting indeed, will have to give it a watch
I didn't see that one. In MM her character plays alongside Matt Damon. She does a good job.
Hey Pat,
Let me know if you like it.
Have a good one.
I may have to watch that one. Any excuse to stare at George Clooney for two hours, right?
I agree completely, Stephanie. One of his movies was done in this area and my hairdresser had a bit part. She said that he insisted that all the men be courteous and respectful of the women. I was impressed with that.
We enjoyed it. Loved the action, the race to find the artwork. And especially loved learning something that was never in the history books at school
I agree, CJ. Their story was just allowed to fade away. Glad they revived it.
