Did You Know

Did you know that even when John Adams went to Harvard dorm food was bad? AND that everyone took their silverware with them and when they'd finished eating, wiped them on the tablecloth, pocketed them and brought them back for the next meal.

Cuts down on the number of them stolen from the cafeteria!

Really? I really did not know that! :)

College food doesn't seem to have changed over the centuries! But we didn't need to take our own knives and forks - progress! Hugs, Valerie

Bleah on the recycled silverware. Particularly because I am well aware of the contents of my brother's pockets. Insanitary doesn't begin to cover it.

Well that just sounds so appetizing, blah.

Good on them for getting something for their education.

Can you say, "EEEWWWWW", boys and girls? 🤢

I did NOT know that. But I'm not surprised about the dorm food being bad! I am surprised they had tablecloths!

That's (as you and I know) what they did out on the trail, too. Interesting. Did you know: When my daughter went to the US Naval Academy 2005-2008, their meat was 'prison' grade. Hunh???

Good point:) And less inventory in the kitchen. Heh.

Sandra Cox said...

Heh. And now you really do:)

Heh. I'm probably the only person in the universe that didn't mind dorm food...for the most part. Grin.

Bleah indeed:)

Sandra Cox said...

Not. Heh.

I'm SO thankful I never lived in a dorm, yet spent over half my life going to school. I laughed at the silverware, but I'd hate to be the one who had to wash and clean the tablecloths. No Oxyclean back then, either.

Sandra Cox said...

Indeed:)

EEWWWWW for sure.

Sandra Cox said...

Ha!

That's just sick and wrong, unless the prison grade was/is exceptionally good. Now that's definitely a Did You Know.

Sandra Cox said...

Yes:)

Sandra Cox said...

Heh. Probably not.
Have a great one.

Sandra Cox said...

Call me strange, but I loved dorm life.
No Oxyclean, that makes me shudder:)

Indeed, Christine.

I can't even imagine college in those times

Both of my kids had good reports about the food at their colleges. They did NOT have to take their own silverware to meals. After my daughter graduated and went to Cambridge for a master's degree, she truly learned about serious drinking. She said that the formal dinners for her college (she was in Churchill) consisted of many small courses served with copious amounts of wine. By the time they finished, everyone was good and drunk when they drank to the queen and last, to Sir Winston, with raucous cheers.

Love,
Janie

It could make a comeback as many places are outlawing plastic utensils.

I did not know that!

All the best Jan
