It's Tuesday

And we voted. Our precinct opened for early voting at 8:00 a.m. October 15.  We were there at 8:00 a.m. These are a few shots of other folks that had the same idea. The line started on the sidewalk, wove down into the parking lot, wrapped around the side of the building and then ended up inside.

There were over two hundred folks ahead of us. It took us an hour and a half to get to the ballots. When we got to the door, there was a man waiting with hand sanitizer that he sprayed on our hands, then handed us a pen that we were to keep. I noticed that as soon as anyone left a booth it was sanitized. All in all, I thought it was as safe as it could be made.

Over 272,000 North Carolinians voted October 15. Over 100,000 more than the first day in 2016. As of the 17th: 700,600.

AND...

Did anyone watch THE WAY I SEE IT, the Peter Souza documentary? For those of you who may not be familiar with him,he's a photojournalist that was the Whitehouse photographer for both the Reagan Presidency and the Obama Presidency.  It was fascinating and insightful.  I highly recommend it. AND If you didn't see it, did you see the town hall debates Saturday Night Live style? Hilarious. What I love about these skits, neither side escapes unscathed. If you haven't seen it and would like to, here's the link. https://youtu.be/4UFfD0HIhv4

AND...In the kitchen.

Like orange juice? Peaches? Have you tried a dollop of peach punch in your OJ? It's a nice combination of flavors.

AND...The HH surprised  me with this 'spooky' bowl. I love glass bowls with plastic covers. I prefer glass over plastic, especially if it's heated.  Heating plastics is one of my carcinogen concerns. Does plastic concern anyone else?

AND...The eternal garden pics.

The Iris is still blooming, though I think it's nearing its last hurrah.

The swallowtails have moved on but these guys are hanging around. They look like monarchs but they are smaller than the ones I'm used to seeing.

Have you voted? Seen the Souza documentary? Still got butterflies?

We had a local government election last Saturday. I, like most of the city, voted early and voted safely.
Love your garden. And butterflies are ephemeral magic. I am just starting to see them here.

Well done on voting, glad it was made safe for you. Lovely new bowl, and well done on your garden, it still looks fab. Have a great week, hugs, Valerie

Hi Sandra - interesting stats about voting - glad you've done it: I hate queuing!! Great spooky bowl ... plastic is useful, but a challenge to us today - I too prefer glass - love the cheery flowers - take care - Hilary

I saw my first Monarch for the year a couple of days ago.
We've been given endless reassurances about heating plastic and I don't recall any deaths. You worry about heating plastic as COVID rampages and our climate changes not in the right direction. Sorry if that sounds harsh.
I think some peach in orange juice might be quite good.
Voting done and I know you voted correctly as is said in China. I wonder if there may have been less of a queue late afternoon? As I said to R when our hairdressing shops opened for the first time after 100 days, why do we always do things at the same time, 11.00am, other people want to do the same thing. We didn't have to wait too long.
Towards the end of Spring here, there is more blooming in your garden than here.

You really had to wait to vote. We were able to vote by absentee ballot (I can anyway due to my age) and I hand delivered my daughter's and my ballot to a ballot box at our township government building. It was really easy. I am saddened at how hard it is for some people to vote, though it's great the turnout is good.

As always, the flower pics are so vibrant and lovely. Like you, here in Wake County, the lines were long and everyone had the same idea to arrive early, causing those super long lines(lol) I'm not a fan of orange juice person, but that may change by adding the peach flavor. I haven't seen The Way I See It, but I'll definitely check that out. Saturday Night LIVE is never afraid to go there, right?(lol) Hugs and Happy Tuesday! RO

That's a long wait to vote early.
Peach punch? Like peach juice?

We voted by mail as Himself wouldn’t be able to stand for long in a long line. And since we have to drive by town hall on the way to the post office, he dropped off the ballots in the drop box outside town hall. I haven’t seen the skits but will go find them. Your garden is so pretty. No butterflies here. They must have flown South to you

I made the mistake of going at 8:00 when they opened, but fortunately the whole process only took 40 minutes. It would've been faster but they were woefully short of volunteers.

I've already filled out my ballot and turned it into one of our drop boxes a week ago.

Let's hope for change congrats on voting. I just saw that baby bottles leach plastic when heated on the news, eeps.

Good on you for voting. The HH and I don't always do the local voting. Last time we decided we should. Went in to vote and there were two other people voting. LOL. Both funny and sad. Hopefully, it picked up later.
What a purrfect description of butterflies. Glad they are fluttering in your direction.
Take special care.

Sandra Cox said...

Thank you. Thank you.
You have a great week too, my friend.
Hugs received and returned.

Thanks, Hil. I'm just relieved we got our votes casts. I'm embarrassed to say there are a lot of shenanigans going on in some of the states trying to suppress votes.
Good to know about the glass. A friend of mine had breast cancer and she refuses to use plastic.
My flowers thank you.
Cheers,

Love your garden pics and these last monarchs might be just smaller in size because they are so late. I’m glad you voted and this shows how much voting means when you can vote and you know it will mean something. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Plastic concerns me. I've pretty much eliminated all of my plastic storage/reheating stuff apart from one larger-sized storage dish for big leftovers (or cookies!). I wish I could be so good with ziplocks but I'm trying and reuse them as long as I can.

I did see that Pete Souza movie. I wish it was online -- I thought it was fabulous and I'd watch it again. It was too late for Rick and we couldn't find it on demand yet but I bet it will show up there. I hope so. It was inspiring.

And well done, waiting and voting. Now that wait...

Good on you for sighting your first Monarch.
Heh. Just because COVID has hit town doesn't mean cancer has left. The HH's mom died of it. We almost lost the baby to cancer. Too many folks I know and care about have had it and died of it. It may not be an issue in your area but it sure is in mine. You may be right on plastics. I've seen articles pro and con.
Let me know if you try the OJ and peach punch.
Yes, I think you are right on the lines dying down in the p.m.
Congrats on being able to get a haircut.
Stay safe. Be healthy.

Yay for voting! We voted by mail in, but took it directly to our county building to a safe inside box. There is also an option to vote in person early too. I haven't seen any lines here though for that. Orange and peach juice sound yummy. Yes, I worry about plastics and cancer, but still find plastic useful, like bags. I did get rid of some stuff a while ago that wasn't safe. I do all I can to stay healthy especially now and don't want to add to my health issues. Beautiful garden pics:)

not yet, no and no and thanx for sharing the garden shots !!

{ if the lines are that long here; I'm going to be extremely late for work !!! ;) ☺☺☺☺

I voted! I saw the Souza documentary and saved it on my DVR because Carol probably hasn't seen it and I know she'll like it. I love the way that Souza uses photos of President Obama to bring Trump down a peg.

Love,
Janie

I haven't voted yet--voting here starts on the 30th. I've always gone on Election Day (never had early days before) and have never found much of a line. It was all easy because I could walk to the polling place. This year they've consolidated all the neighborhood sites (I guess because of COVID) so I'm not sure what to expect as far as lines go. It will probably be okay. And we have four days to go in case early on there are long lines.

Good on you for voting. THAT box should be ligit:)
Oh, I still use plastic too. More than I should. I don't heat it, but I freeze containers. I wonder if that's an issue?
The orange and peach juice is yummy. I'm hooked now. I have it every day:)
My garden thanks you:)

I got my mail in ballot yesterday and plan to send it in tomorrow or Thursday. It's too important NOT to vote this year. So glad you did your part.

Yes, I saw the Sousa documentary. It was fabulous and it will be on again this weekend, I think. I also plan to see the debate, since they are killing the mics while the other person speaks.

Your garden is looking awesomely awesome.

It's so frustrating that we don't try to help people vote and instead do everything to keep them from it. I completely agree, I laud the determination of folks to get their vote in.
Natalie, you barely look old enough to vote, let alone have a voting age daughter:)

Sandra Cox said...

Thanks, Rockin Ro.
I take the lines as a good sign. I hope folks continue early voting.
I think you'll enjoy the docu. There were many warm fuzzy moments and a lot of LOL moments and some that just brought tears to the eyes.
I do enjoy Saturday Night live political skits:)
Hope your week is as much fun as you:)

The wait was longer than anticipated, but worth it:)
Yes:) It's tasty:)
YOU have a great one:)

Sandra Cox said...

Good job on voting. Smart way to go about it.
Hold on, I've got to run outside and ask the butterflies if any of them are from your neighborhood:)
Take special care.

Sandra Cox said...

It seems to be either rags or riches with volunteers this year. Good on you for voting.

Truedessa said...

Early voting starts here Saturday. I will probably go Monday. I have a mail in but, I will drop it off at the polling place.

Sandra Cox said...

Good on you. Are you having any issues in your area of CA with official drop boxes and the drop boxes the Republicans have set up?

Sandra Cox said...

Both fingers and toes crossed for change.
That is scary on baby bottles leaching.

Sandra Cox said...

Thank you.
Voting is so important. There is such an effort to stifle the vote this year, which is appalling and petrifying.

Sandra Cox said...

The Souza documentary was awesome, wasn't it?
It's hard to get away from plastics completely. I do recycle my plastic sacks to clean out the litter boxes:)

Sandra Cox said...

Hopefully, you'll zip in and zip out.

Sandra Cox said...

Good on you for voting.
I too am impressed with the way Souza has stepped up to the plate.

Sandra Cox said...

It will be interesting to see how things go line wise.

Sandra Cox said...

Did you get your ballot in? Does your state track your ballot? I love that.
The Sousa doc was fabulous. Loved it.
Thank ya on the garden:)
Stay safe. Be healthy.
