Sistas

This is a picture from pixelbay.com not a family photo

In many regards my sister and I are polar opposites.
She's a blonde. I'm brunette.
She has blue eyes. I have brown.
She eats meat. I'm a vegetarian.
She's a conservative. I'm a liberal.
She's a gun advocate. I believe in gun control.
She wears blue toenail polish. I prefer purple.

Yet.....
Unbeknownst to the other, we both slipped gas money into my daughter's purse before she headed home.
On another occasion...
We looked at each other and said simultaneously, "I like your hair," then burst into giggles.
And one memorable birthday, she drove through a blizzard to celebrate with me.
Sistas.

Another vegetarian. Just love the idea you find common ground even when you are often so different. I bet you have many lively conversations at Thanksgiving!

I envy you. I have brothers. Much loved, infuriating, very different brothers. I am the only vegetarian, the only girl, and a tree-hugging leftie. I love my brothers but always wanted a sister.

Reminds me of the song by...
Bette Midler..!

Sisters! Sisters!
There were never such devoted sisters
Never had to a chaperone
No sir!
I'm here to keep my eye on her
Caring sharing every little thing that we are wearing
When a certain gentle man arrived from Rome
She wore the dress and I stayed home
All kinds of weather we stick together
The same in the rain or sun
Two different faces but in tight places
We think and we act as one uh huh
Those who've seen us know that not a thing can come between us
Many men have tried to split us up but no one can
Lord help the mister that come between me and my sister
And Lord help the sister that come between me and my man..
(There is more...but can't remember). :).

I remember that song Sandra. Way back.
I didn't have a sister....had a brother.
I'm sure you must get on so well.

My sister and I are just like that, and yet we almost always send each other the same Birthday and Christmas cards (we live and shop in different places), and when I go to pick up the phone to ring her my phone rings, and I can guarantee it will be my sister on the line.

Had a much older half sister and brother, but we never grew up together. Must be nice.

Even opposite the good siblings are sure there when needed.

So nice that even though you are opposites, you and your sister can be friends.

Aww, that's SO sweet! My sister is a bigwig with the American Marketing Association, so I don't get to spend much time with her. She's busy, busy, busy!!!

I do not know what I'd do without my wiser. She knows me like no one else.

Don't you just love it when they put words in my mouth and on the page no less.

Family doesn't necessary mean you're the same person. Nor does that apply to friends. It's the matter of what you do share and how you react to that you don't.

Makes me miss my sisters. :)

Thanks. And you, Val:)

I love this post, Sandra. I'm an only child. I always wanted a sister and I know they aren't ALWAYS the best of relationships but I think more are like you -- unique in interests and style but so very alike in love and caring.

For the most part when together we stay on common ground conversations....for the most part:)

My sister and I were quite alike with a few exceptions.

You two are really close.
I love that you get each other the same card and pick up the phone at the same time.
The HH and I once got each other the same VDay card.

There's 15 years difference between us. We didn't grow up together, but we grew together:)

People are different, and yet the same. If only the people in this world of ours realised that...and acted positively rather that negatively...and selfishly.

Wouldn't that be wonderful.
