IWSG Wednesday

The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Members post about their  doubts and fears, discuss struggles and triumphs, and offer words of encouragement to others who are struggling.

AUGUST 3RD QUESTION: What was your very first piece of writing as an aspiring writer? Where is it now? Collecting dust or has it been published?
My first story was The Agent and Mrs. Springer and....it's collecting dust.
Now my question for you authors: Were your sales down in July?
Historically, it seems most authors' sales drop.  Hope yours held.

I'm going to go in a different direction today. I'd like to recommend a movie that deals with motivation and tenacity.  Something that as writers we need two hundred and twenty percent of. Do you ever find your mood revolves around your sales or lack thereof?  Been there.  Done that. And how stupid is that.  There is so much more to life than book sales. But anyhow, my point being, writing is a huge struggle on so many fronts and it's easy to drop off the grid because of feeling beaten down or one too many challenges. Every book today is up against millions of others.  Rather daunting, hey?
Sometimes it's hard to remember that people other than authors, in all walks of life, have challenges just as daunting, with unattainable goals that they are determined to reach and refuse to give up until they do.
Eddie The Eagle is about just such a young man, that fought on no matter the odds, no matter the obstacles in his way.  If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.  Not only is it a feel good movie, it's highly motivation.  Fight On.

Thank you. Some days being more stubborn than stains is a positive.

Yes, it's important to keep going, no matter what, and this applies to life in general. Have a great day, hugs, Valerie

As an artist, I often feel like giving up. It's nice to know movies are still being made that show how far some people can go when they're determined enough...

I have no idea if my sales were down. It can be depressing when they drop though.
I'll have to check that movie out.

Indeed, Yvonne. We keep on keeping on don't we?

When it comes to writing, I think stubborn and crazy are in the job description:)
We'll have a moment of silence for July sales across the board.

I know, Heather. I think we all can empathize with that. Fight on.
Big hug.

Hi Alex,
I trust your sales 'rode out' July:)
Let me know what you think of the movie.

Stubborn definitely, crazy, a must. I did notice the dip in July. It's the desert month, eh?

Sandra Cox said...

I had no expectations, but really loved it. If you do see it, let us know what you think of it:)

Sandra Cox said...

I do too, Diane. I haven't seen him in anything I didn't like him in.

Sandra Cox said...

It is a must and yeah July has been a desert. Well said, Crystal:)

July sales did suck. Oh well... Not much I can do about that though, except keep writing! :)

Oh good. Now I don't feel so bad about my July sales. All two of them. I think I need a plethora of motivation movies, books, and songs.

Whenever that movie hits Germany I am going to go watch it, and if it doesn't come, I will wait and get it on DVD. Thank you. I needed that.

Yes, my sales dropped. I didn't sell a single ebook last month despite many efforts. Do you mean to tell me there's a reason for that and I can stop beating myself up?

emaginette said...

Every time we carry on we show inner strength. :-)

Exactly!

I hear ya on the plethora of motivation:)
And hugs on the sales. I don't think anyone did that great.

Sandra Cox said...

I hope you enjoy it, Pat. I found it totally inspiring.

Sandra Cox said...

Since you specified ebooks, I'm assuming you sold paper......Woo Hoo!
Yes, stop beating yourself up. You are in good company. July is historically a bad sales month. I guess everyone is takings vacays.

Thank you for this post Sandra! I have to see this film! My mom remembered Eddie when it actually happened in real life. The movie is very inspirational! Authors and artists are so much the same! Fight on is right my friend! Big Hugs!

Sandra Cox said...
