At one point in time, the staff and faculty where I worked were considered family. Donna added to that by always having the coffee pot on, cookies available and a kind word for anyone that needed it.
She was sixty-six when she got her PhD. Her standing joke was she bet it really confused the mailman to deliver mail, with doctor in the title, to the trailer park.
She made a home for, and took care of her mother, until her mom passed.
She came from Virginia coal country and never forgot her roots.
She was a friend to many and held out a hand to anyone that needed it.
Donna:
On Your Journey
May the bagpipes
play
May the sun’s
rays warm you
May the birds
fly with you...
As the breeze
catches your wings
And carries you
home.
Your Friend

May the road rise up to meet her.
May the wind always be at her back.
May the sun shine warm upon her face,
and rains fall soft upon her fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold her in the palm of His hand.
The Irish blessing, slightly altered.
Hugs, Valerie
My condolence to you for the loss of your dear friend, who sounds like she was a wonderful person. One good thing, it would appear, is she didn't suffer...a small blessing, I know...none of us wish to see our loved ones suffer.
She will never really be gone - because your cherished memories of her will remain.
Old Sicilian saying...
"To the living we owe the truth..To the
dead, we owe respect".
God bless!
A most reverent and caring post about a friend who was close to your heart. I have no sayings or poems, just know how you felt about and respected this lady you cared deeply for.
I'm sorry. She obviously touched many hearts. Prayers for her family and friends.
Hello Sandra, I’m so sorry to read about your friend. She was obviously a wonderful person.
I hope you won’t mind me sharing one of my favourite poems written by Christina Rossetti;
When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me;
Plant thou no roses at my head,
Nor shady cypress tree:
Be the green grass above me
With showers and dewdrops wet;
And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget.
I shall not see the shadows,
I shall not feel the rain;
I shall not hear the nightingale
Sing on, as if in pain:
And dreaming through the twilight
That doth not rise nor set,
Haply I may remember,
And haply may forget
I always gain comfort from these words even though they are so poignant.
A nice tribute to your friend who died.
My deepest condolences for the loss of Donna!
As you read my novel Till Life Do Us Part, you know my strong belief on death and afterlife.
As long as Donna is remembered she will be here with those who cared for her.
Sure sounds like she was a wonderful person indeed.
So sorry Sandra. She sounds like she was a lovely lady.
She sounds like someone I wish I had known. Rising up against the odds, on her own terms, in her own way. I am sorry for you loss.
She sounds like a friend that is hard to come by with a golden heart
I'm so so sorry for both of you. They don't make them like that anymore.
A lovely eulogy, my condolences for losing such a special person in your life. The value of a person certainly has nothing to do with grandeur of their home.
I am sorry to her of your friend's passing. You honor her with your words and memory.
So Sorry for your loss.

Oh wow. I'm SO sorry. One week??? She sounds like she was an amazing person. Our coworkers do become like family. When you work in an office, you spend more time with them than your own family, after all!
Sorry to read that - but gone in a week, such a shock..but then always a shock when someone passes.
The poem is so eloquent and so are your words to honour your friend. It must have been a shock to everyone how fast the cancer struck. One can only take comfort to how many lives she touched and that her life will continue on in the memories of people who knew and loved her. A very nice tribute
A wonderful tribute Sandra, may she R.I.P.
Yvonne.
