Did You Know

Did you know, Charles Darwin performed experiments on Venus Flytrap plants that included anesthetizing them with ether? These plants take four to five years to mature and can reach thirty years of age.

I didn't know that - and do worry that sometimes our scientists conduct some fairly cruel experiements.

    1. I've always wanted a Venus Flytrap but never had one. It's just as well, it would probably try to eat my cats;)

  12. I've never heard of anyone anesthetizing a plant. Perhaps he worried that since Venus flytraps can move a little, they might be able to feel too, like animals? Or maybe he was just testing whether they could still move when anesthetized?

A lot of plants have surprisingly long lifespans. Most people have bushes or shrubs near where they live that have been around for decades. Some trees live thousands of years.

It did sound like he thought they could feel didn't it? Considering their makeup I wouldn't be surprised.
Plants can have long lifespans for sure. We had some at work that were between 15 and 19 years old.
