Did you know, Charles Darwin performed experiments on Venus Flytrap plants that included anesthetizing them with ether? These plants take four to five years to mature and can reach thirty years of age.
Hi Sandra - Darwin was an amazing man ... experimenting in so many natural things. Venus Flytraps are fun aren't they. Happy Birthday to CJ ... cheers to all - Hilary
I only know about Venus Flytraps from Little Shop of Horrors. 😄 Thank you all for the birthday wishes. Thanks for the digi card, Sandra. It’s purrrrrfect especially the Ink kitty
I've never heard of anyone anesthetizing a plant. Perhaps he worried that since Venus flytraps can move a little, they might be able to feel too, like animals? Or maybe he was just testing whether they could still move when anesthetized?
A lot of plants have surprisingly long lifespans. Most people have bushes or shrubs near where they live that have been around for decades. Some trees live thousands of years.
Sandra CoxAugust 1, 2019 at 7:47 PM It did sound like he thought they could feel didn't it? Considering their makeup I wouldn't be surprised. Plants can have long lifespans for sure. We had some at work that were between 15 and 19 years old.

Happy Birthday to CJ.
I didn't know that - and do worry that sometimes our scientists conduct some fairly cruel experiements.
That's a new one on me.
Happy birthday week, CJ. Hope you're having fun at the retreat.
Happy Birthday, CJ!
I have tried and tried to raise Venus Flytraps. I never had any luck.

I didn't know that he did that. Interesting. And that was nice of you to make a Birthday card for CJ.
That's a long time
That Darwin was always experimenting wasn't he?
They do indeed. 'We kill the ones we love.' He supposed loved these plants.
I did not know this either.....and yes, a MOST happy birthday to you CJ ☺☺♥♥

Who'd a thought.
I've always wanted a Venus Flytrap but never had one. It's just as well, it would probably try to eat my cats;)
He was amazing and they are fun:)
Cheers,
Sure never knew that.
Anesthetizing? Compassionate man.
We do indeed, Yvonne.
Have a good one.
Hope your birthday is as purrfect as you, CJ:)
Enjoy it.
Glad you liked it, Christine.
