Did you know in Victorian times, flowers were considered the language of love and used to send secret messages. For instance:
Acacia stands for secret love.
Begonia - Beware
Calla Lily - Beauty
Clover, White - Think of me
Dwarf Sunflower - I adore you
Lily, orange - Hatred
Lotus - I love you still
Primrose - I can't live without you
And so on.

I did know. They were also prone to spelling out messages in gemstones.
Yes, it was a fun way of talking through the flowers. This crops up in quite a lot of novels written back then. Hugs, Valerie
Might be harder to pass than notes in class
One year our school system let kids buy a colored carnation and send it to someone. I got a green one, which meant "You're weird but I like you anyway." LOL
No, I didn't know what you said about flower colors. Amazing.
I am all for co Fort kitty😸. I knew about the flowers as they often have meaning in art like, the death of Ophelia, a pre-raphaelite painting. Now I must get off the couch and get to work. Feeling dizzy today, was better yesterday but I hope getting the tooth yanked will fix that. That is on the 21st.
Knew about the flowers--never seen the memes before. Ha!
Happy Wednesday
So many rules during the Victorian era. I don't think I'd have been able to keep up with it all.
May your day be full of purrs too!
Heh. We must have lots of Flower Children running around the blogosphere since so many knew about the language:)
Now that's a great piece of trivia for today, EC. I didn't know about spelling messages in gemstones.
Well personally, I hope I don't get any orange lilies. Heh.
whoa....wouldn't want to be the recipient of the orange lily !! ;) ☺☺
I didn't realize they had meaning in art, though it makes sense. You and EC have taught me something new today.
Sorry you are having a bad day. Hope you feel better soon.
And flowers are so pleasurable still today!
Ha. Indeed.
Haha. I'm not sure if I should get green carnations for my friends or from them. Maybe both.
Happy Wednesday, Adam.
Me neither.
Thanks for the lovely sentiment. I usually pick up some purrs somewhere during the day:)
Ha. No indeed.
They sure are, aren't they, Christine?
I'm enjoying the neat factoids!
I DID know that! And I loved "You had me at reading!"
Not message in a bottle!
But message in a flower :)
All the best Jan
I love this about flowers and I love the message with the kitty! Big Hugs!
