Did you know John Adams was the first president of the United States to have a man of African descent as a dinner guest at the White House?
The guest was Joseph Bunel, a representative of Toussaint L'Ouverture. Toussaint was a leader of the slave rebellion on San Domingo.

I wonder how many African heritage people have been Whitehouse guests in the last four years.
I did not know that. I thought Teddy Roosevelt was the first to invite an African-American to The White House. I wonder if Adams was criticized as much as Roosevelt was.

I didn't know that. Sadly I suspect that those of African heritage are much less likely to be invited guests in the White House than their proportion of the population would suggest is reasonable.
Especially today. But I'm expecting that to change come January.
Interesting bit of information, and I agree Sandra, that the face of the White House guests will look much different when the new administration is in place. It already looks different with the new cabinet nominees.
