Your Weekend Read: The Vampire

In Darkness: The Vampire
By L. Diane Wolfe

Souls shrouded in darkness…

Stuck working as a barmaid for her demanding father, Anna dreams of adventure. When mysterious strangers enter the bar, she overhears they seek Zancrela, an ancient fortress filled with treasure and a magical library. Taking her chance, she offers to guide them. The conditions: deliver Zancrela or die.

As they journey through the wilderness, she discovers their secret: they are vampires. And most view her as food. One takes interest in her and her heart dares to hope, but it might not be enough to change her fate. Will Anna find Zancrela or become a vampire morsel?

I’ve been a vegetarian for 34 years and a total vegan for 28 years.

Last time I tasted chocolate was 2002. (And no, I don’t miss it one bit.)

I don’t bake with sugar and where I can, I replace oil with applesauce.

My Review

Anna, a young woman who works as a drudge in a tavern, meets a group of strangers one night and overhears them talking about finding Zancrela, a magical place she’s always wanted to visit so she offers to guide them. An offer that’s accepted but with a caveat of dire consequences if she fails: her life. Not too long after the trek begins, she discovers she’s traveling with a band of vampires and most of them consider her nothing more than a food source.  Danger becomes her constant companion as the chances of her survival lessen.

Ms. Wolfe has created an interesting storyline with well-developed characters. The tale flowed smoothly and held my interest with plenty of action/adventure and just enough romance to keep me reading. Thumbs up to the author for this entertaining story.

Hi Sandra and Diane - sounds an interesting vampire tale ... great to read the review - good luck Diane. While the food facts are informative - I'm afraid I might not have had chocolate for a few weeks - but I couldn't last 20 years without any! I eat a good mix - mostly veg and fish ... cheers to you both - Hilary
