Did You Know

Did you know, the first public high school in the United States was in Boston and opened in 1821?

I think you are referring to Boston English High School which opened in 1821. My father graduated from Boston English in 1937. But Boston English is not the first high school to open in the US. That would be Boston English's rival, Boston Latin which opened in 1635. Harvard College, now Harvard University opened in 1636.

CJ,Whew I had to do some digging on this. You're right about Boston Latin.

Boston HIGH SCHOOL claims to be the oldest high school that could be attended regardless of the student's status, i. e. not belonging to the upper class, which they consider makes them the first public high school.

PS. Cool info about your dad and the school rivalries, CJ.

I didn't know that but since Harvard is there too and an old university, I am not surprised.
