It's Ketch-up Day

How was your weekend and Monday? We hooked up with my sister in TN.We hadn't seen her since pre-Covid. You might remember, she was planning to come in Christmas and got caught in the Southwest fiasco. We visited a bird sanctuary while we were there and met some fascinating characters. I thought of Sue (EC). She sees the kin of so many of these beauties in her backyard everyday. Vid of a cockatoo 'getting down':) and pics of sanctuary and birds below.

My sister and her new friend.

More pics next week.

Those chairs caught my eye, but so did the sculpture of the children. It was wonderful to see how tame the birds were and how happy they seemed to be. I recognized your sister before I scrolled down. Great photos, Sandra.

Great sulphur crested cockatoo vid.
The first black parrot is a red tailed black cockatoo.
The second maybe a yellow tailed cockatoo, or an immature red tail. Actually, there is a new subspecies of red tail and it looks like that to me. EC should know.
The last is a Major Mitchell cockatoo, which I think has just been added to our endangered species list. I don't think I've ever seen one in the wild.

Very cool photos.

As you may already know, I know literally nothing about birds (lol), but thanks to you and EC, I've seen lots of pretty ones hanging or flying around. What a headache that had to have been for your sister!!!! I sure hope they refunded all her money, and what a blessing that you guys were actually able to hang out at last! I'll be headed to Nashville in July as we get ready to celebrate my granddaughter turning 13. Hope all is going well and that you and the family are doing okay. Sending lots and lots of hugs your way and you're always in my thoughts. RO

Jamie, Those are pretty cool, aren't they?
Elizabeth, Overall it seemed to be an excellent sanctuary and the aviaries were large enough for the birds to be able to fly around. Good on you for recognizing my sister:)
Hils, We did have a good time:) Glad you enjoyed the pics.
Andrew, Wow. You know your birds. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Alex, A mess indeed.
Val, Agreed. Bird sanctuaries are a great idea. My sister and the cockatoo dressed to match.
Donna, Aren't those great. Yeah, we had fun:)
Ro, How great to hear from you. You're missed. Now here's my question. How can you have a 13 yr old granddaughter when you're only 20?:)
Birgit, I'm so glad to hear there is a sanctuary in Niagara Falls.
Christine, Thanks. Those chairs are fun aren't they.
Adam, Excellent. That's the area we were in.
