Hi Sandra - Kith and Kin ... an old fashioned term. Onions ... well no I would be dubious about using tulip bulbs ... I think I'll pass on that one! Cheers Hilary
At some point I read a book about the privations of the last world war and the fact that people in The Netherlands resorted to using tulip bulbs in place of onions, so that must be it. As for kith, like Hilary the only way that I have encountered its use is as part of kith and kin. There may be politicians in Washington who may find themselves shunned by their kith and kin right about now!
Add me to the kith and kin brigade. I always understood it to be people you were close to, but not blood relations. I suspect that tulips are better in the ground than my belly.

Tulips for onions? Who'd have thought?
And funny should mention tulips--see my song for today.
say what?
I can’t picture eating tulips.i believe I am closer to my kith than my kin.
I thought kith was tied to kin as in kith and kin. No tulip bulbs here. The chipmunks really love them
I thought the same on kith but maybe it means animals? Now off to check!
It is indeed, Hils. I'm with you on the tulip bulbs. I'd hate to waste one on dinner:) Cheers,
David, Well said and innit the truth.
EC, Yes and yes:)
Jamie, I'm on my way over.
I had no idea you could eat tulip bulbs! Xo
Denise, I know, right? xo
Christine, LOL. Exactly.
Birgit, Right there with ya on eating the tulips. Seems sacrilegious some how. Good kith sentence.
Ha I didn't know that about tulip bulbs but, now I wonder what they might taste like?
CJ, And you would be right. It seldom appears alone. Same here on the tulips. I don't have many left. The voles lunch on them.
Your thoughts are right on track, Jeanie. It's almost exclusively used with kith and kin. Though, I think kith is a wonderful synonym for friend;)
True, I don't think I'll be finding out in the near future. Heh.
