I didn't know that about onions - and have never come across that word before. Thank you.

Macaronic is an interesting word and one I don't know. I searched for more information and I think Macaronic annoys me, when a book written in English inserts French sentences into the story. I can usually work it out by my minimal French and context but it strikes me as being pretentious writing.
While I loved cooked onions, they have the opposite effect on me and I have a bad nights sleep if I eat a lot.

You have to admit that the goonish and inarticulate cadre of fools in Washington is at the very least macaronic in their command of language. They have mastered doublespeak and gobbledegook in a way that few can aspire to. And have you noticed how so many of them look drowsy, or even fall asleep during a senate hearing or other important meeting? Must be the result of all the onions on those burgers from the Scottish Restaurant. It can only get worse!

Hi Sandra ... Moronic is the word that came to mind ... but Macaronic would suit in another guise ... personally I have to cook my own ... and I love cooked onions - definitely not raw ones. Cheer and fun for a Wednesday - Hilary

Then onions in stuffing in turkey must really do a sleep number on people!

Macaronic. Being Italian, I thought macaroni so macaronic would turn you into Ziti? 😺

My mom and her best friend's were experts in macronic. Can I say it that way? They would talk back and forth, quite quickly veering from English into German und Zuruck ( like that:)) so seamlessly. I miss hearing that.
I had no idea about onions making one sleepy. I think I'll pass on eating an onion.

Birgit, I bet your mom and friends were. I admire folks that speak more than one language. Your sentence works for me:)

Andrew, Great example of macaronic.
Onions don't agree with a lot of people. I was surprised about the sleepy thing. You must have to eat a lot of them.

Sandra Cox said...

David, Well done. They have indeed mastered doublespeak.
