Fled the scene. Best not to unnecessarily use long words half the people won't understand.
I knew about the bark, and our indigenous population had their own pain killing barks.

The indigenous people knew that willow bark was a form of analgesic and they shared their knowledge with white settlers. Just as they shared much else. What did they receive in return? Disease, hostility, persecution and death. Those same settlers absquatulated with everything the Native People cherished, but most of all their dignity. Some called it American Exceptionalism.
