Corn juice! I got nothin' for that. I've never heard of it before, but I found a recipe. Looks interesting, I guess. If oranges were green, then I wonder why they were called oranges. I'm mystified tonight.
I am assuming that in this context corn juice means a grain based alcoholic drink of some kind, a slang term for whisky, perhaps. It sounds like it could be found in a western novel about cowboys, six guns, rustlers, dogies and bad hombres. Do you know anyone who might write about that stuff, Sandra? As for oranges being originally green, I didn’t know that, but I assume the interior was still orange, hence the name. My wife is a voracious consumer of oranges, me not so much. I have never seen her eat one with two fingers of corn juice, however!
Corn juice = White Lightnin'. Mighty, mighty pleasin', pappy's goin' squeezin'. White Lightnin! Oranges are green in warm weather. When temps. get cooler, they turn orange.
Who'd a thought, hey? They originated in Southeast Asia. It had to do with the climate and chlorophyll. Glad you liked the flamingo, Linda. Happy weekend.
You should be getting plenty of Vitamin C:) Oranges are definitely a health food. Corn whiskey is still a thing in North Carolina:) Hope your day is pain-free, Birgit.
Hey Denise, I want to think they were. They originated in Southeast Asia and the color had to do with chlorophyll. Heh. Yes. Corn whiskey:) An NC thing:) xo
LOL. Pretty confusing, innit? There's corn juice and then there's corn juice. In NC it's of the whiskey variety:) Apparently, the oranges originated in Southeastern Asia and the climate and chlorophyll kept them green. They were first called nāraṅga, which referred to the tree itself.
Heh. No corn juice (whiskey) for you, aye Elizabeth:) They were originally called nāraṅga or more specifically the trees. They originated in Southeast Asia and the climate and chlorophyll kept them green.

I looked up corn juice...not sure I'd drink that...lol. I did not know about the orange. I love them and eat about 20 each week. Yup, 20 if not more

I also looked up corn juice. I prefer my corn on the cob, not mashed into a drink. Thanks for educating me on this, Sandra.
And green oranges? I'm with Janie Junebug. How did they get their name if they were originally green?
Never knew that about oranges, and never heard of corn juice.

I did not know that about the green oranges, Sandra! And the flamingo made me smile. :)
I am guessing corn juice is whisky made from corn.
I didn't know about oranges once not being orange.

You are so funny, David. Let us know if Miriam starts taking two fingers of corn juice (whiskey) with her oranges. Hehe
