Ketch-Up Day

 

Hoping all the special dads out there had a wonderful Sunday. What did you do to celebrate?

Friday we hooked up with friends that we get together with once a month and go out to eat. This time one of the guys volunteered to have us at his house.  Oh my.  Great food. Great presentation.  Great fun. Below are the first two courses.

This was the first course: Peach-champagne cold soup. 

 Second course was a delicious salad.

 And from there I stopped taking pictures and concentrated on eating. 

The main course consisted of meatloaf--which I passed on. Heh--mashed potatoes and green beans  and chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert.  The only thing that wasn't fresh or made from scratch was the rolls, iced tea and ice cream.

Ketch-up Day

 

We're home! Our daughter recently had foot surgery so we went to Philly to spend a few days with her and the SIL. My job was to fill the squirrel, err, bird feeder. The regular-size squirrel shared the feeder with the birds.  Not Mr. Chubby. After he was done eating, Mr. Chubby--shown below--just sat in the feeder, refusing to let anyone else eat. Bad, Mr. Chubby.  Bad. Bad. Bad.

Harry and Holly's job is to keep our daughter company while she's laid up.  As you can see, they take their work very seriously.

And then, we headed home on the Choo-choo. Our normally eleven hour trip was fourteen.  Don't know what was going on there.

How are you? What's going on in your neck of the woods?

Does your mail look like this? Bills and donation requests? One of my pet peeves is giving to a charity and them selling your name so everyone can ask for a place in your wallet.

I studiously avoid politics on this blog because A. I feel very strongly about them. And B. I have friends on the other side of the fence that feel just as strongly about their beliefs and I seriously doubt if we are going to change one another's mind. This one though hit close to home and I'd like to share it. Our nephew is one of the scientists who lost government funding. He works on brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease and other neurological issues. He recently took part in an AP interview and because of that he has been getting hate mail from the opposing party, which I find to be so very sad. (And to be perfectly fair, my side of the fence can get pretty raw too. It's a bad situation all around.) He is truly a kind, gentle soul whose goal in life is to make the world a better place.  

 The article itself, I found to be well-written,  informative, and thought-provoking. What in it incited hate mail is beyond me. If you'd like to read it, here is the link. 

 

Scientists have lost their jobs or grants in US cuts. Foreign universities want to hire them.

How are you? Whatcha been doing? I've been working on setting up a business account on Pinterest. Good gracious. Pinterest is fine, but I'm pretty techno challenged. Does anyone else out there have a Pinterest account? Any words of wisdom you'd care to impart?

Not much else going on here. What about at your house?

The garden is getting pretty sparse, but it's kept me hopping with staining the fence--I think I may have it finished next year:) mowing, adding pavers to the walkway and weeding

Ketch-Up Day

 How's everything in your neck of the woods? We've had rain for about three days now.  Woot. Woot. Since we are officially in a drought here, it's been most welcome.  The only good thing about the lack of water is we haven't had to mow in over a month.  The weeds aren't even growing. Though, I imagine that's all about to change with the extended days of rain. At least temporarily.  What's it like there?
