Six Months For Rape

I'm assuming you've all seen this on the news. Do you believe it?  What kind of message does this send? The same one that we've been getting for years. Money talks.

Do you think the judge should be removed?

But on a much more exciting note.  The United States has its first female nominee for the President of the United States. Regardless of political leanings, we've broken through a barrier.

I didn't see that on the news here, but the sentence is way too lenient. I'm not a Hilary fan, but it's good to see a woman being nominated - about time! Hugs, Valerie

Of coarse it was way too lenient. I don't know about your legal system, but here if a judge awarded such a sentence, the Public Prosecutor would no doubt appeal against the leniency and the sentencing would go to an appeal court. Funnily, at times criminals appeal their sentence as being too severe. Sometimes they end up with a longer sentence after an appeal.

I, being in the UK didn't see that news item, I think the judge SHOULD be removed. Being a man perhaps he don't know what a woman goes through when raped.
Yvonne.

I remember hearing about that Brock Allen Turner mess on Twitter. The judge's decision, plus his reasoning for it, is so revolting.

But yeah, I agree, that's such exciting news about Hilary! Very cool to see a woman in the running for president for a change...

A friend sent me that story. Wrong, wrong and wrong. Six months for him, a lifetime for her. I will send you her email - I think you will approve.

I can only imagine what's going through that poor victim's mind at the moment. Such terrible reasoning on the part of the judge.

Terrible misjustice, wonder when he will try again

Six months is way too short. He destroyed her life. The judge should destroy his.

the rapist needs his jewels cut off, the judge needs to be removed from office and never be allowed back on ANY bench, and the rapist's father needs to be raped in prison. (if I ruled the world, that WOULD happen)

HRC 2016!

He should be thrown in there for waaaaay longer than 6 months.

Yes, the judge should be removed. Whatever happened to eye for an eye?

Another case of affluenza. Disgusting. Maybe the judge needs to go back to law school to re-learn the law.

Disturbing news story about the sentencing, on so many levels. GREAT news about Hillary, though.

No doubt that the judge should be removed. I'm thrilled to have a woman nominee, though Hillary doesn't knock me out. A lot of baggage there. But the alternative is so frightening I hope with all my heart she wins.

Oh my gosh. It stuns and angers me. It has sparked huge outrage over here. I doubt if the felon had been poor he would have gotten off with a slap on the wrist.

Sandra Cox said...

It would be great if that happened here. ie: Appealing--longer sentence.

Sandra Cox said...

It's all over the news on this side of the water. A lot of outrage. I hope they do get him off the bench but it's not going to be an easy process.

Sandra Cox said...

Much agreement on both your statements, Heather:)

Thank you, EC. I read it. Very powerful. I'm adding the link to tomorrow's post.

Two women are my heroes; Barbara Jordan and Hillary Clinton. I've been holding my breath, but surely America will rise up against Drumpf.

It's pretty pathetic.

Scary isn't it?

No doubt that kid had rich parents. I bet that judge's bank account grew larger mysteriously one day

Yes, the judge should be removed. I signed the petition requesting his removal. The rapist's face is plastered all over the place. I hope he never has a day's peace again in his life. I will be very upset if he gets out early for "good behavior."

Love,
Janie

The fact that judge ruled the way he did, really makes me question our judicial system.

Sandra Cox said...

It sounds like its not that easy getting a judge off the bench. I hope folks follow through.

Yay, Hillary!

Sandra Cox said...

That is for sure.

Sandra Cox said...

I hope he is removed.

Sandra Cox said...

Oh yeah, affluenza at its finest. Sickening.

Sandra Cox said...

I agree with all your sentiments, Colette.

Sandra Cox said...

Yes indeed. Though I am a Hillary supporter. She's been fighting for women since the 60s. Like everyone else, she's made mistakes, but I do believe she'll do her best for us.

I had to go look up Barbara Jordan. You broadened my horizons.
He's alienated so many people, though he's made it this far.......

I just hope he gets what's coming to him when he arrives in prison.

Interesting post Sandra, lots going on in the USA right now. The judge should be removed. Happy about Hillary.

Hi Christine,

I was shocked when I heard about it. This is NOT just a case about the wealthy versus the poor, but a case about women's rights. It shows that women don't stand a chance.

Think about it. When a woman is raped, she is raped at least three times. The first is the physical rape. The second is the emotional rape she has to relive as she tells the police officer, who is often indifferent to her needs and feelings, and sometimes looks at her like she "had it coming." The third time is when she has to answer the defense, and face the jury while repeating her ordeal. In this young lady's case, she was raped yet again, when this sentence was passed down. I think this judge may be on the way out the door if public opinion has anything to say about it.

Sorry, dear. I'm not a fan of Hillary, the biggest enabler in the country. BUT, I am even LESS a fan of the racial bigot Trump. I may skip voting this year if Hillary is nominated. Personally, if it has to be a Clinton, I'd much rather see Chelsea get the nomination. She doesn't carry the same baggage Hillary does.

Birgit said...

Good for Hilary! Actually Great!! I am scared though since she is not everyone's favourite and Trump seems to be getting many more votes than I like to see that he will get in which would bring the United States down in a big way since he is a Fascist bully and bigot. I wrote on your next post about this brat and it is disgusting. Unfortunately the judge will carry on and so will he and she will have to deal with so much more for the rest of her life. I hope she has the ability to know to hold her head up high and rise above all this horror.

I saw this on the news! Horrible!! Truly horrible!!
Yeh for Hillary! I hope she gets in for you guys!

The more I read about this family (including today's letter from Brock Turner's mother), the more convinced I am that they're all completely disconnected from reality. The mom is too upset to decorate their new house? Her son was led astray by the other swimmers? Please. Many people drink (and get intoxicated) and yet almost none of them ever consider raping someone or committing any kind of crime while under the influence. It all comes down to a person's core beliefs, and apparently that family (all of them, it seems) believes they are above the law. I have to wonder how they would feel if their daughter had been the victim . . . would they claim she'd been promiscuous and be okay with her rapist getting a slap on the wrist? Or would they use all their money and affluence to put "that horrible monster" away for as many years as possible?

Sandra Cox said...

It certainly is. Pretty inexcusable.

As long as you aren't voting for Trump. I'll be satisfied:)

Sandra Cox said...

Smiling. Yay, Hillary.
On the other...I'm happy to see Vice-President Bidden is weighing in. Maybe it will help get the judge unseated.

Sandra Cox said...

It was horrible, Stacy.
And I'm hoping she gets in too. I'm counting on it:)

Sandra Cox said...

Indeed, Lynda.
I wonder how he will deal with women in the future....

Everything I hear about Brock Turner just makes me shake my head. It's awful what privilege and money can get you.
