Darkest Hour
This is a wonderful movie that has you gripping the edge of your armrests as it progresses. History buffs will especially appreciate it. Gary Oldman does an incredible job of playing Winston Churchill. And what's amazing, he didn't gain a pound. If he doesn't win mega awards I will really be surprised. If you aren't familiar with him here's the Wikipedia link.Kristin Scott Thomas also does a brilliant job as Clementine Winston, as does Lily James as Elizabeth Layton. Overall I found the film fascinating.

I am glad you enjoyed it. I came to history late, but find it engrossing.

DeleteHeard it was good indeed, good to know it actually is.
ReplyDeleteGary Oldman was amazing. You'd swear you were watching Churchill.
DeleteI might not make it to the theater to see it, but I do want to see this film. The makeup on Oldman is incredible.
ReplyDeleteIt was unbelievable, Alex. My understanding is that he specifically asked a makeup artist (?) to come out of retirement who he felt would do a remarkable job and he did.
DeleteThis looks like a good one, and I adore Gary Oldman! He has played so many great roles, and really convinces you with his acting skills. Glad you enjoyed the movie and Happy Monday! Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteI wasn't that familiar with Oldman, but he took my breath away in this one.
DeleteHugs back,
I want to see this movie.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to, CJ:)

DeleteThis one is high on my list -- even before Oldham won the Golden Globe last night. I hope this is his year.
ReplyDeleteHe certainly deserved it.
DeleteI hope we get to see this one before the Oscars.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to also, Di.
DeleteHe got a golden globe last night for it

ReplyDeleteMy pleasure, Christine:)
DeleteI do want to see this one. I love anything about Winston Churchill and I can't wait to see how Oldman carries off that role.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine how he did it, Lee. The difference between the character and the man in real life is amazing.
DeleteHi Sandra - it does look to be an excellent film - with some amazing actors and actresses. Dunkirk was superb too ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteWe thought it was excellent, Hilary.
ReplyDeleteDunkirk was well done though I would have liked to have seen more concentration on the rescuers instead of the rescuees:)
Hope you're staying warm.
Part of my British History, Seems like a good film.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
I am so behind! I really want to see this film and Gary Oldman looks brilliant in this role. He was excellent as Dracula and if you want to see another Oscar worthy performance that got 0 recognition , see Immortal Beloved where he plays Beethoven
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize he played Beethoven! Thanks for the update, Birgit.
ReplyDeleteI'm so looking forward to this. Thanks for sharing the trailer. x
ReplyDeleteWow, thanks for the review Sandra and the trailer! Big Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see this film.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
