Did You Know

Did you know, that in the original Declaration of Independence, before cuts from Congress, Jefferson had denounced slavery?

*Since he was a Virginian landowner and had slaves of his own, this surprised me.

I do like learning - and I usually do learn from your Did You Know posts. Thank you. I wonder why he denounced the practice and still kept slaves...?

I seem to recall something like this and that he was actually, apparently, in love with a slave and had children with her. There was a huge amount of press about this a few years back. The African American descendants wanted to be included in the "family reunions" and be recognized by a society. I think it did happen but not easily.

I also knew this. I think PBS did a special on it and him a few years ago. Have a lovely Easter, dear Sandra.

No lo sabia gracias por la información. Te deseo un genial fin de semana

Why thank you:)
My thoughts, he kept them because they made his lifestyle possible. Washington had it in his will to free his slaves after he and Martha passed. She went ahead and freed them after his death because she was afraid of an uprising.

I think it all came down to money, unfortunately.
