Friday's Great Read

Our friend and prehistoric author Jacqui Murray has a new book coming out and she's giving us a sneak peak at the cover and a link where we can pre-order it.
Isn't this a great cover?

A boy blinded by fire. A woman raised by wolves. An avowed enemy offers help.

Summary

In this second of the Dawn of Humanity trilogy, the first trilogy in the Man vs. Nature saga, Lucy and her eclectic group escape the treacherous tribe that has been hunting them and find a safe haven in the famous Wonderwerk caves in South Africa. Though they don’t know it, they will be the oldest known occupation of caves by humans. They don’t have clothing, fire, or weapons, but the caves keep them warm and food is plentiful. But they can't stay, not with the rest of the tribe enslaved by an enemy. To free them requires not only the prodigious skills of Lucy's unique group--which includes a proto-wolf and a female raised by the pack--but others who have no reason to assist her and instinct tells Lucy she shouldn't trust.

Set 1.8 million years ago in Africa, Lucy and her tribe struggle against the harsh reality of a world ruled by nature, where predators stalk them and a violent new species of man threatens to destroy their world. Only by changing can they prevail. If you ever wondered how earliest man survived but couldn’t get through the academic discussions, this book is for you. Prepare to see this violent and beautiful world in a way you never imagined.

A perfect book for fans of Jean Auel and the Gears!

I guess I never thought about how early humans survived, so this sounds fascinating, along with a bit of intrigue. Thanks for the review and I wish Jacqui Murray luck with her latest book in the trilogy.

Thanks for visiting. I'm haunted by how the h*** they managed to live in such a treacherous world! This is my first of nine books (and counting) on the subject!

Jacqui Murray--Writer-Teacher said...

I do too. It takes a village, as Margaret Meade so famously said.

Jacqui Murray--Writer-Teacher said...

Thanks for the kind words, Valerie. I'm pretty excited about continuing Lucy's story. I haven't written about her for quite a few years.

Jacqui Murray--Writer-Teacher said...

Thanks so much, Jeff. Lots of hope in it, don't you think?

There's something about wolves, isn't there? This is one of the wolf's predecessors, one that was indigenous to Africa, before we even thought much about those noble animals.

Jacqui's covers are all amazing. I love the way they work together for all her series. She (and her cover designer) are masters at branding. Great share, Sandra. Congrats on the new one, Jacqui. I can't wait until it's my turn to share. :-)

I feel like I can walk right in through the cover into Lucy's world. I think I should bring my bear spray, in case there's a snarling dog or a saber-tooth waiting for me. Great page turner, just like all the others in the Crossroads Trilogy and the Dawn of Humanity trilogy.

Sounds good!

I found Damanza when my original cover designer confessed this genre wasn't one they worked in. Damanza thankfully does!

Jacqui Murray--Writer-Teacher said...

This one's a little different. I purposefully left the female vague--is it Lucy or Wild? Hmm...

Jacqui Murray--Writer-Teacher said...

Thanks, Christine!

I tried to leave Jacqui a comment on her web page, but I couldn't find a place to leave a comment. First, I want to thank her for visiting my blog and second, I do NOT live in Indian Hills. These signs are created by one man, a volunteer at the Community Center and he obviously has a creative sense of humor.
