Throttlebottom sounds a bit rude, and I had to look it up. Its etymology is interesting.

I did not know that about the letter a. How amazing. I'm sure everyone who has just read this fact is running numbers through their heads, as I just did.

Hi Sandra - Throttlebottom sounds a wonderful word - and still is despite the connotation Andrew refers to - it certainly isn't an English term. Number references are strange too - but I guess someone worked the 'A' point out - cheers Hilary

Whether numbers up to a thousand contain the letter ‘A’ is not something I had ever pondered at length, believe it or not! I am quite sure I will forget this fascinating piece of trivia as fast as I have been made aware of it. As for the throttlebottoms in Washington, most of them probably can’t even count to a thousand, anyway.

Throttlebottom is too nice a word for our guy. At least our Rep. Our Senators are visionaries.
