Throttlebottom sounds a bit rude, and I had to look it up. Its etymology is interesting.
I did not know that about the letter a. How amazing. I'm sure everyone who has just read this fact is running numbers through their heads, as I just did.
Hi Sandra - Throttlebottom sounds a wonderful word - and still is despite the connotation Andrew refers to - it certainly isn't an English term. Number references are strange too - but I guess someone worked the 'A' point out - cheers Hilary
Whether numbers up to a thousand contain the letter ‘A’ is not something I had ever pondered at length, believe it or not! I am quite sure I will forget this fascinating piece of trivia as fast as I have been made aware of it. As for the throttlebottoms in Washington, most of them probably can’t even count to a thousand, anyway.
Throttlebottom is too nice a word for our guy. At least our Rep. Our Senators are visionaries.
Yes, I have heard that no number up to thousand contains the letter A in its spelling. Amazing.
I had to read the meaning inept..yes but not harmless. We'll, we know Resident Rump is one along with his minions. Here, in Canada, Trudeau can be a bit of a throttlebottom but Doug Ford is definitely a throttlebottom and not a nice one. He is Shady and tried to get his way to build home on the greenbelt. He got rid of things that were beneficial....like our beautiful science Centre. He has relocated it closer to downtown. The building in which it was in sits in a beautiful site surrounded by green. He got developers in to try to tear it down and build...he is a meatball with toothpicks for legs. He is a mini Rump.
My words are stronger for the Right Wingers. Republic🤬
LOL. I did the same thing, Andrew. ie. Running numbers through my head:)
Hi Hils, It's American and derived from a musical comedy.
Cheers,
LOL. Great analogy, David:)
