How are you? What's going on in your neck of the woods?
Does your mail look like this? Bills and donation requests? One of my pet peeves is giving to a charity and them selling your name so everyone can ask for a place in your wallet.

The Critters

Louie and Maisy
And in the news
I studiously avoid politics on this blog because A. I feel very strongly about them. And B. I have friends on the other side of the fence that feel just as strongly about their beliefs and I seriously doubt if we are going to change one another's mind. This one though hit close to home and I'd like to share it. Our nephew is one of the scientists who lost government funding. He works on brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease and other neurological issues. He recently took part in an AP interview and because of that he has been getting hate mail from the opposing party, which I find to be so very sad. (And to be perfectly fair, my side of the fence can get pretty raw too. It's a bad situation all around.) He is truly a kind, gentle soul whose goal in life is to make the world a better place.
The article itself, I found to be well-written, informative, and thought-provoking. What in it incited hate mail is beyond me. If you'd like to read it, here is the link.
Scientists have lost their jobs or grants in US cuts. Foreign universities want to hire them.

If I find out that one of my charities has sold my details I stop supporting them. Sadly while I know someone is doing it, I don't know who. Yet.
Stopping science and research is such a scary thing to do. The world benefits from scientific discoveries.
Love your critters and the garden.
The flow of requests for money never ends. At the end of the year, at tax time, we decide who we wish to support and resist all solicitations in the interim.
We get charity requests, although not as many anymore.
I will read the link tomorrow. It is getting late night here. Thanks for the hydy photo. I received one article of mail last week to my letterbox. I've ordered something, so I expect at least one article this week. The bird in the photo is so pretty. What is it?
I love your garden! It looks so inviting and glad you have butterfly bushes. We must keep the bees and butterflies happy. I miss my hydrangea bushes but our yard is all FUBAR. The fence is done which is great but there is a ton of soil heaped everywhere and my hubby can’t do it all especially since his arthritis has been acting up.
I am so sorry to hear how these major cuts in Medicine, arts etc.. has affected so many jobs plus the arts themselves and finding cures for major diseases and helping people who have these diseases, I find it reprehensible.
4 years will soon be up. Lovely flowers.
Your garden is beautiful, Sandra:) I grt so much ftom charities recently. One sends be all kinds of stuff including socks that I didn't ask for. Then they follow up with a ton of guilt for not rewarding what they sent. The one thing that really makes me mad is the ones that send change. I refuse to open it. Lol. So sad what's happening in our world and how people attack things that we never could image a few years back. Hugs to your nephew xo
EC, Its irritating, isn't it? I still give to my charities of choice but I don't even look at what comes in the mail anymore just chuck it.
Thank goodness the rest of the universities around the world are still about science and healing.
My critters and my garden thank you:) Hugs
Sounds like a good plan, David.
Alex, Mine are like rabbits. They continue to multiply.
That's great, Andrew. It's an interesting article.
I'll trade you mail:)
You betcha on the hydy photo.
Always think of you when I see them.
The little bird is a bluebird. They are such a joy.
Sleep well.
Thanks, Birgit. Ouch on the arthritis. The HH and I are right there with him. Agreed. The cuts are mind boggling.Hope you are feeling well.
Christine, Toes crossed and thanks;)
Denise, I know. What a pain right? And what is the coins about? We get that one too. It might have made sense 50 years ago. Not so much now.
Our world has turned upside down for sure.
My garden thanks you:) and thanks for the good wishes for my nephew;)
Hi Sandra, I always love seeing your garden photos. How can anyone feel stressed looking at pretty flowers. sigh...Enjoy you week!
Hi Sandra - thank you for the Robin Redbreast! Believe it or not there's some music about Robin Redbreasts on our Classical Beeb radio programme!!! Love the post ... and agree with your other thoughts - we are not in easy times at the moment. Take care - cheers Hilary
I LOVE the pics of your critters! It's a marvelous menagerie. And also, your garden. Like you, I have strong opinions and I am incensed by the pulling of research dollars from so many institutions and am sorry about your nephew. That's very important work. Today or this week they will vote on rescinding already promised funding for the next two years from public broadcasting and a number of other groups that provide foreign aid. If you are predisposed to phoning your Congress people on that issue, now it the time!
Thanks, True. Glad you like them:) You enjoy your week as well.
Thanks, Hils.
'we are not in easy times at the moment.' So true. Cheers,
Thanks, Jeanie.
It is important work for sure. I told his mom I had always hoped it would trickle down to help my grandson, and children like him, who have brain cancer.
I found your post on PBS funding fascinating. I never realized how little taxpayers pay for that. Didn't you say something like $1.60 per taxpayer?
