Ketch-up Day

How was your weekend and how's your week going? We attended one of the many rallies held Saturday. For the most part it was peaceful. A couple of folks did show up with the intent to disrupt. One man who was there protesting the protest--which he has every right to do--was loud, obnoxious, and hateful.  My immediate reaction is always, they aren't going to change my mind and no one is going to change theirs. I just ignored him and chanted louder. But a woman was there who went up to him and starting talking. Not in your face, just an exchange of ideas. And it worked. I was humbled by it. I'm not saying he suddenly went from red to blue anymore than she went from blue to red, but they had a civil discourse and exchanged ideas and hopefully each person saw a little bit of the other's point of view.

AND

In spite of spring shilly-shallying, the garden and surroundings are making a determined effort to bloom.

I'm pleased you attended and rather impressed by the woman who talked to MAGA man, and perhaps gently convince him of the error of his ways.

It would help a great deal if people could sit down and talk. Pretty hard to talk to some of those MAGA types though.

How wonderful that two people with totally different attitudes could listen to the other without being hateful. A good lesson for all.

LOVE your garden. I must check to see if my hostas are peeping out yet.

Happy birthday to Ryan. Hope it's a great one.

Hi Sandra - quite difficult to talk to opinionated people, who usually don't change their minds, or are prepared to think ... good for that lady. Happy Birthday to Ryan and good for the garden ... it'll be wonderful soon - cheers Hilary

Hi Andrew, Thanks. We attend a lot of rallies, but I try to avoid politics on the blog since I've got friends on both sides of the aisle. But to me this was about communication. I was stunned and so impressed.

David, It's getting harder and harder to reach across the table isn't it?

Isn't it stunning, Elizabeth. I was in awe.
So are those hostas up?
Thanks for Ryan's bday wishes.

I know no one's minds will be changed but it is nice to gather and be able to at least speak our minds safely. Goregous flowers! Xo

I am so glad you are fine and that this lady was able to diffuse the anger. I would be beside you with this protest. Amazing how one person can change the world. I love your pictures with all the pretty flowers and your garden sculptures. I always think the chicken is real…lol. Yesterday it was 2C, today, 22C, tomorrow, rainy and 9C…I hate this.
