When I got home today our feeders were filled with birds: Juncos, Chickadees, Carolina Wrens, Nuthatchers, etc. But what always catches my eyes are the Cardinals. I always try to count them. They of course don't cooperate. I'll get almost to my goal and they realign themselves. They all take turns at the feeder so everyone is in constant motion. I did count seventeen males today. So including their significant others there were probably about three dozen Cardinals in the backyard, looking like a painting against the winter white.

I do I do I do love cardinals! That's the one thing I miss about the Midwest - my winter cardinals!
I was thinking about you last night when a traveller from 'Missoura' showed me an internet picture from his porch and a red fox had found haven on his deck chair and it lay there looking at all the snow

What birds reside in your area?
The closest we have to cardinals are their relatives, cedar waxwings. Otherwise, we get pretty much the same birds, finches, robins, lots of bluebirds and blue jays, mockingbirds, fly catchers, wrens, raptors - lots and lots of birds, just no cardinals!
I like the cedar waxwings. I'll keep my cardinals though:)
I'm partial to nuthatches, and had never seen a female cardinal until the kids spilled the birdseed on our walkway. We enjoyed watching the feast!
Now that we've moved, I miss seeing my hummingbirds in the spring/summer.
Hummingbirds are most fascinating. Almost like watching butterflies.
