ABSENTMINDED CONTEST
Let’s see a show of hands for being absentminded.
Whether you’re a teen, tween, middle-aged or a senior, we all have our moments. Unfortunately, as you progress from teen to senior the moments increase.
My moment: I lost the TV remote and found it the next morning in my purse. When I mentioned ‘my moment’ to a friend, she told me she found her misplaced cell phone in her freezer.
Okay, I’ve told you mine. Will you tell me yours?
For a chance to win a PDF of THE CRYSTAL, a paranormal romance, just leave a comment and share your most absentminded moment. A random drawing will be held and announced June 6 at sandracox.blogspot.com.
Excerpt from THE CRYSTAL
Gabby paused as she caught a glint of color out of the corner of her eye. She craned her neck to see, but the shimmer disappeared. Curious, she walked in the direction the flash of green came from. A row of black capes blocked her view. She pushed them aside and stared into the shadowy corner. Hidden in the gloom, was a sea-green crystal ball. It stood in solitary splendor on an antique claw-footed stand.
She took a step forward and ran her index finger along its smooth surface. The globe felt toasty warm against her damp skin.
Drawn, she splayed her fingers until her palms nestled around it. A delicious wave of heat ran through her, like sitting in front of a crackling fire on a cold winter night. Ecstasy coursed through her body.
Transfixed, she watched the glowing green crystal change to blue, its hues dancing and sparking like moonbeams on the water.
The crystal pulsed beneath her hand.
By degrees, the feeling of warmth disappeared…and fear crept in.
Her breath hitched in her throat as the color in the crystal fell away and a face formed. Its blurred outline moved back and forth, wraithlike and then sprang into sharp focus.
She felt the color drain from her face, as her nerveless fingers dropped from the ball. The face in the globe belonged to the hard-eyed stranger she’d bumped into outside the shop, only moments before.

I guess my moment would be five years ago at my 20th HS reunion. I discovered my keys weren't in my pocket, so I went searching frantically for them in the bathroom of the bar. Went up to bartender to see if anyone had brought them to him; discovered keys were in my HAND!
Course, this could just be chalked up to not enough food and two rum and cokes...
I've had a lot of absentminded moments in the past couple years. Unfortunately, I can't remember them all.
Yesterday, I was frantic when I couldn't find my keys. I was just about to send the kids out to see if I locked them in the car AGAIN, when my younger daughter reminded me I'd been using my belt pouch that day. Sure enough, that's where they were.
Once I left my keys in the car's ignition UNlocked at the baseball field. Boy did I get lucky my van wasn't stolen.
Once I couldn't find my reading glasses anywhere. I had a few pairs so I put on another pair. When I went to the ladies room, I was wearing two pairs of glasses. One on my face and one on top of my head. Duh! I must have looked like a complete dork.
I have so many that it's hard...LOL!
There was the time when I ran back in the house for the car keys only to realize I'd already started the car.
Another time I lost the cable remote and found it in the frig.
The best one was when I put my brand new expensive watch in the dishwasher. I guess I was making sure it was water proof as I found it the next day. Apparently I had taken it off while cleaning, set it on the counter with all the other things which needed loading in the dishwasher. I guess it never dawned on me it wasn't part of the dishes.
All I can say is thank goodness these things happen few and far between. otherwise I would think I was crazy or something.
It makes me happier that you all are experiencing some of the same.

I'm very good at pushing my glasses onto my head and then wondering where they are when I have to read something. I have also picked up the TV remote instead of the cordless phone when it has rung...I believe it's a sign of the times - we're all to busy thinking a million different things and rushing around. We need to slow down
I have to admit, I did the cell phone in the freezer a few weeks ago. I'm glad to know I'm not alone. BTW, love your blog.
Like Carol, I've done most of them. I've put the phone in the fridge. I've had the glasses on top of my head. I've had the pen tucked into the spine of the notebook I'm holding.
What are the more novel ones?
Trying to pick up the child from school that's 500 miles away in DC...twice in three days. Setting out a dinner place setting for the child that's at camp for a whole week. What? I couldn't remember the kid wasn't around driving me nuts?! I guess it's better to think I need to do something for them than not.
Misplacing my camera cord for three days at EPICon...and finding it right where I knew I'd left it. No, my roommates were not playing jokes on me. I really do that.
Finding my car keys in the laundry basket...clipped to my belt...oh, that jingling DID mean something as I was rushing around loking for the keys!
Looking for a pen I had clenched in my teeth. I figured it out when I started to swear at losing it again. And my husband wonders why I tuck pens in my hair all day? Rolling eyes.
Unlocking the backpack for TSA, losing the lock, and then figuring out I'd put it inside my purse...for what reason? Shrug.
My husband calls my purse the Loch Purse Monster. I have literally put movie tickets in there, paid for the food, reached for the tickets...and had to spend 20 minutes searching for them.

which one? have a lot! favorite was when I was a new mommy- rushing to get out the door with the infant so I could get to work on time. I made it before the whistle, but found I had put on 2 left red slip-on shoes. Had to wear them all day. Strange thing, nobody noticed!
Wow, I'm feeling much better about my short term memory:)
I have two dogs, and at the time I did this, they were crate trained. I had gone out to dinner with a friend, on my way home I called my mom and was having a great conversation. When I pulled into the drive way I decided not to open the garage or the dogs would hear me and they would bark and I didn't want to lose the call. So I sat in the drive way for quite some time, it was summer and I had the AC running in the car and I didn't want it to overheat so I opened my car door to get some fresh air. Somehow I managed to lock the door to the car as I exited, I think it was more of a habit and I just didn't think it through, needless to say the car was still running. So now it's 10 o'clock at night, I'm locked out of my house, I'm locked out of my still running car and I have no way to fix either. To make matters worse the only person who could let me in was my estranged husband, who had to get out of bed and drive 45 minutes to let me in. If I hadn't been so absent minded and not locked the car .
Here's my good'un
I was walking to my house from the garage, about 70 feet. I put my pocketbook down on my looking pond bench and fed the fish. I went into my house & later that day it started to RAIN. I couldn't think where my pocketbook was, Oh yeah, on the looking pond bench SOAKING WET!
Mindy :)
grin. There's some really good ones here.
I hate it when I walk into a room to do something only to ask myself "what the heck did I come in here for?" later I will be doing something else and all of the sudden it comes to me. That means it sometimes takes me two or three tries to get something done.
My heavens. I'm sure we all do this. I put a gallon of milk in the laundry room cabinet one day while sorting groceries... and didn't find it until I did laundry...
I'm also a widow, and I carried my DDH's IDs in my wallet for a long time. Once I was stopped by a cop & handed him my DDH's driver's license instead of mine :-p
Left the tub cleaner in the shower once and then tried to wash my hair with it. That was lovely. I could go on.
Thanks everybody for sharing. These were priceless.
