On another topic. Do you use the term 'girl' when addressing any of your girlfriends? Do you find being addressed as girl offensive? No guys, not you:) Why I'm asking: My 1800's ghost addresses a young woman as girl and my editor finds it offensive. I'm really curious about it, because I don't find it offensive, and use the term all the time, but if she does others must as well. What's your thoughts?

Gifts have been made. Waiting for the girlies wishlist which will most likely be shopping of the point and click variety. I love point and click.
As to "girl", if the person using the term is elderly, comes from the generation before mine (parents, grandparents) I bristle less. Different time, different history. If the person is contemporary, that's another matter. Clear as mud?
I am almost finished with my holiday shopping and this year, I did 95% of it online through Ebates. Ever since the dear introduced me to this website, I've been hooked!! I'm up to 100 bucks cash back on purchases from all of my favorite stores. It's about time! Finally saving money!
I don't use the term "girl" but I do use " luv"
Shopping all done at my sea. Girl offensive? hmmmm ummm no. How can calling someone what they are be offensive? What next? Referring to everyone as "hey guys" when girls are around is offensive? pffft.
Naw, I use girl all the time. =) And I don't mind being called that, as long as someone wasn't talking down to me. Then there might be an issue. I'd punch 'em in the face... in my imagination. ;)And I'm about halfway w/the Christmas shopping, better get my rear in gear.
No, I don't find it offensive. Personally, too many people are getting too offended these days. Good gravy. So stupid.
Good job on your shopping, CJ:)
Yup clear as mud. I understood what you were saying.
I can see girl or woman as a "name" being offensive. It shows lack of respect, and unlike hey dude was never taken in a casual situation.
Reminds me of a King of the Hill character Cotton Hill. He'd always refer and speak to his daughter-in-law as Hank's Wife.
Good for you, Gina. I keep hearing about ebates, but I didn't know if it really was a money saver. Good info. I like both girl and luv:)
Good for you, Pat! I'm getting closer.....
Yeah, the girl thing confused me.
I'd be smacked for using that term.
Hey Ms. Leandra, That's pretty much how I feel. Good luck with the shopping. I'm heading for Amazon pretty shortly. grin
My shopping is done except for one item. "Girl" is an iffy thing. When I was young, we had a pastor who called the women in our Bible study "you girls." It was demeaning. But any friend of mine can call me a girl (especially "her, girlfriend", and it's fine.
Love,
Janie
Thanks, Happy. Good to get the feedback.
Hi Adam,
I guess its all a matter of perspective. I say, hey girl, to my buds, just like a guy would say hey dude.
Hi Alex, You' be in trouble, huh? grin. I guess its a matter of perception and who's saying it to whom. Thanks for stopping by:)
Woo Hoo, on almost having your shopping done, Janie. That's great. Girl has never bothered me, but there are other forms of address that do:)Everyone has there own ideas on what's offensive and what's not.
If someone says it in a derisive tone then I get it but personally if someone still called me girl I would love it since I feel I am past that point. I would hug them:)Just don't call me Ma'am
That's just my take.
It's pretty close to my take too, Happy:)
