Dress Drama

Every family has its own brand of luck. Ours runs to the macabre especially my daughter's. It's either very good or very bad but always surreal.
She was trying to hold down cost for the wedding and rented her dress, which is the new big thing in her area, MONTHS ago. A week and a half before her wedding, the rental shop called and told her they no longer had that dress and had nothing else she could rent because it was prom weekend and everything they had was spoken for. Sounds like a very customer service oriented business doesn't it. (Heavy on the sarcasm here.)
So she found something online and ordered it. She forgot to have it overnighted so there was a real fear it wouldn't arrive in time for the wedding. Luckily, it arrived in time. Unfortunately it was three sizes too big for her. You can tell by the pics my daughter is very slender.
The clock is ticking. We are down to days before the wedding and the girl still doesn't have a dress. She orders another one. It arrives and it comes close to fitting. It can use some alterations but there's no time.
Approximately two days, give or take, before the wedding she finds THE dress.
The morning before the wedding, she gives me, her mom-in-law-to-be and her auntie-in-law-to-be a preview. She's kept the dress that needs alterations as an option, but it was the last dress, hands down, that was the pick of the litter.
Here's the pictures from the viewing.

That was really crappy of the shop to do that. It's a wedding, folks! A hundred times more important than the stupid prom.
The dress she picked was really nice though. Glad it all worked out.

That's why I never wanted Daisy to rent a dress. Daisy's mom ended up making hers (she has some sewing skill) as she insisted because she always wanted to maker her daughter's wedding dress.

What a stupid shop. Glad it all worked out, must have been hectic indeed. The final one worked great.

I'm sorry that she went through all of the dress stress just before her wedding but the final dress was meant to be. It is gorgeous and she looked beautiful in it. :)

It was a pretty cold response, wasn't it?

That makes it even more special, Adam. When are you getting married...or have I missed the event?

I never heard of rent a dress and I would write to the owner and the Better Business Bureau. They must be too busy since they feel they can be that idiotic. No matter what, your daughter looks beautiful and the dress is lovely

Wow! How could they do that to her so close to her wedding day? At least she found a beautiful dress.

Congratulations! She looks beautiful. So happy it all worked out. The dress shop should be ashamed for almost ruining her big day. Your son is one lucky guy; this girl knows how to function under pressure!

Absolutely beautiful. Some people would sue that shop. I wouldn't, but some people would.

Love,
Janie

That's a good question, Kelly. But she ended up with the right dress. I'd be surprised if the rented one looked at good as this one.

She looks gorgeous! I can't imagine how stressful that must have been for her! I'm not sure I understood your post – Did she purchase a dress that could have been altered? Or was she allowed to alter a rental?

Renting a dress sounds like a fantastic way to save money, but I'm wondering if you can ever find a rental dress that truly fits, without alterations, as well as you'd want it to for your wedding day…
