This and That

THIS:
My daughter gave me a potted Amaryllis bulb for Christmas. It's been fascinating to watch as nearly every day the stalk shot up higher than the day before.  It took about two weeks to bloom but the end result was well worth the wait. Have you ever 'raised' an Amaryllis bulb?

THAT:
The border we put up in the laundry room:)
AND....
Among the lovely gifts I got from the fam were these bowls.  I thought the cat people out there would appreciate them.
Yup, cats, flowers and books (reading or writing them) pretty much sums up my world:)

AND....
Last year the HH ordered a chocolate on chocolate bday cake for me, got it home and found out it was white with chocolate icing.
This year he ordered a chocolate on chocolate bday cake, and they made a chocolate with white icing.
He told me that they always take great pains to write down the order correctly. Now if they'd just take as much time to actually read it.... Heh.

Love your amaryllis. We had some this year too. And I was amazed at how fast they grew once they started.
The bowls are special too. And the border.
Cats, flowers and books sounds like a pretty good world to me.

I've never owned an amaryllis, but I've watched Valerie as she photographed the progress of hers last year.

Yep, I love the cat person bowls and applaud your husband for trying when it comes to ordering you the perfect birthday cake.

Do you know what to do with the bulb when they are done blooming, EC?

Sandra Cox said...

He did. He even added the coconut and almonds since the bakery doesn't do that.
You're up late.

Leave them in the pot (or the ground) to come back next year.

Your amaryllis is gorgeous, I had one last year. The cat bowls are fabulous, as is the border for the laundry. And I love the thought of chocolate cake, even if the bakery does seem to have problems with reading and understanding! Hugs, Valerie

Wow! That plant is growing like crazy and the color is fab! It's clear to me that you're a fan of chocolate which is awesome. Uh...I sure hope I haven't missed your birthday Super Sandra! Those cat bowls and the cat mug are so adorable and fun. Your family knows you well! Hugs...RO

I love to pieces those cat bowls! Your border is cute and wow -- that amaryllis is stunning. I'm so boring. If it's not something like carrot or lemon cake, I'm a white-cake-white-frosting kind of girl. This is an argument Rick and I have where neither will ever win!

Maybe you have to order your own BDay cake, and make the request memorable. Happy Birthday!
The amaryllis is gorgeous! I tried growing one once, waste of money.Maybe I should try again?
That cat border is very cute.

My mother used to have a bunch of amaryllis in all different colors. Love the border so cute and perfect for the laundry room. The bowls are adorable. As to cake, chocolate cake with chocolate frosting is perfect, but any port of cake in a storm. Have a great day!

Gorgeous Amaryllis!!!
So darn cute those ๐Ÿˆ bowls :)
Hubby sure tries hard to get the birthday ๐ŸŽ‚ right...bless his ๐Ÿ’ Maybe he should write it out in chocolate icing on a photo of a chocolate cake!

Big Hugs!

Do I need to continue to water it or can I just stick the whole container in the closet and pull it out next winter?

Sandra Cox said...

Glad you like it, Yvonne. It's been fun to watch.

That's what Elizabeth said.
The bakery does seem to struggle doesn't it? Maybe next year (God willing and the creek don't rise:) I'll switch over to German Chocolate and see how that works out:)

Water it while it has leaves/greenery. Then when it goes dormant you can stop.

The bowls are my favorite. I haven't tended flowers since I had my own garden when I was a kid. I like the amaryllis though; it's beautiful.

Thanks for the bday wishes, Sharon:)
I think someone gave me one once that didn't take.
This one had tender loving care. My daughter bought the bulb then put it in her homegrown mulch in a container:)
They are fun to watch. Hope you get a good one next time.

I bet all those amaryllis blooming at once were beautiful.
Ha. Any port of cake in a storm. Love it:)

Thanks, Jess.
Isn't that a hoot about the cake? He caught it this time before we left the store and they pulled another one out of the freezer and iced it.
