Did You Know

Did you know, before Jefferson penned the statute for religious liberty in 1786, in the Anglican church  it was a crime in Virginia not to baptize infants?

*Considering religious liberty is why many of our ancestors came to America, I found this appalling.

A very, very happy Bearthday to dear Elizabeth.
I agree with you - that factoid is shocking. And sadly continues in one form or another. Prejudice is dangerous.

I totally agree Sandra. That is, or at least was, a very dangerous precedent (and law). Thank you for remembering my bEARTHday, dear friend.

Sadly, I could see this pass in many states now. remember, it was the Puritans who came to your country...their name seems to sum it up. A happy Birthday to Elizabeth!

Another fact of which I was not aware.

I must have lived, and am living, my life hiding from the law. I wasn't baptised!! Oh! Wicked me!! :)

Interesting tidbit...

I didn't know that. I don't think a person should be baptized if they have not agreed in doing so, or if they don't know what's going on.

Yes. Sigh.

It was a shocker to me.
