The only word I can think of is stocky and that really isn't right. Burly is a great word, perhaps without an alternative single word.

I think massive, brute force, and muscular. It's a difficult word to find a single word to replace it.

"Burly" makes me think of "muscular," too. But for some reason it also makes me think "hairy," like a big, muscular hairy guy . . . maybe drinking moonshine . . . lol.
