Ketch-Up Day

Did you have a good weekend? Having a good week?

I'd like to share with you an experience a wildlife rehabber I know had years ago.

She had taken in a litter (passel) of orphaned possums. One of the youngsters became friends with the dog. They ate together, slept together, and played together. Friends.

When it was time to re-home the possums, she took them into the woods and let them go. The little possum who was friends with the dog came back. This happened several times before it finally acclimated to the wilds and wasn't seen again.

A couple of years later the dog died unexpectedly and they buried it on the property. That evening, at twilight, my bud (the rehabber) looked out the window and to her stunned surprise saw the possum sitting on the grave.

I have to believe it came to say goodbye to its old friend.

Love the story about the possum. And your Eternal Garden.

I suppose the possum could pick up the dogs scent. What a nice story to read.
Plenty of flowering in your garden.

Beautiful pics, and that's a beautiful dog/possum story.
I'm sure there's a garden animal/guest story in my brain somewhere, but I can't find it right now. :-)

It’s hard not to get a little metaphysical when reading stories like this. There are many ways to conclude that it was simple coincidence and there is no way of knowing if it was even the same opossum, but perhaps sometimes it’s good to go with what seems warm and fuzzy. I’m okay with that!

I nearly cried about the possum story. How touching.

LOVE your garden and the hostas are amazing. I miss mine. The guys who put in the new pipeline destroyed them.

I'm happy you enjoyed the story and the garden pics, EC. Critters are so amazing, aren't they?
Thanks, Alex.
Andrew, Could have for sure.
Debi, I'm sure you could write a grand garden/critter story:)
David, You can never rule out coincidence, for sure. But personally, I believe it was his old friend.
Thanks, CJ. Some plants do well with me. Some plants, not so much.
I'm pleased you like them, Jamie:)
Glad you liked it, Christine;)
Elizabeth, I think about the connection between the possum and dog a lot. So sorry to hear about your hostas. If I lived closer I'd give you some starts.

Great story about the possum and the dog, especially knowing it actually happened.

What an interesting story about the possum. And I love your flower pictures. It's too early to plant them hear, but I think it'll be safe to plant much of my veggie garden in the next week.

Thank you, Natalie. Yay on getting your veggie garden out next week. I put out some pepper plants and I've got my potatoes from the mulch pile. Heh.
Glad you liked the story and the photos,
Nas. Have a grand one.
J.P. And you, my friend. Sending you a hug.

That's an a.azing story and we can learn from the animals. I wish I had a great story like that but I don't. My doggie is jealous of the pussy cat. I love your garden pics which looks strong and healthy. We are in the early stages still for garden looks. Some trees are blooming which is very pretty. I'm now dealing with bad tailbone pain due to sitting and it's connected to my hypermobility. I try to get up and walk around when I can but I am stuck, at times, seeing one client after the other. I almost fell to the floor from the pain and yelled an expletive...I hVe no shame.

Birgit, I'm so sorry to hear this.
