In summary I think of ballyhoo as fuss. Noisy fuss.
I did know that some animals can smell cancer. And also identify other serious illnesses. There are a number of cases where animals that live in nursing homes identify (and go to comfort) people who are about to die.

One I did know.
I would have thought ballyhoo was an old fashioned word used in England.

Yes, I heard about dogs being able to sniff out cancer. It's pretty amazing what dogs can do to help us in our lives.

And thanks for sharing a new word I never heard of: ballyhoo.

I love words that are no longer in common usage, although they should be. I remember them from a previous time and of course love using them myself. Words like malarkey, contraption, folderol, and of course ballyhoo.

If the protest happened during a baseball game it would be a brouhaha

I've heard the word ballyhoo, but not used very often.
I did not know dogs could sniff out cancer in humans.

Andrew, Yay you on your knowledge. Ballyhoo: I thought so too. It just sounds English, doesn't it:) But it looks like the oldest origin may be from Spain.
Karen, Some of the older words are the best, aren't they?
Jamie, Good job on knowing ballyhoo. The sniffing is amazing isn't it?
Val, Yes they are:)
True, Good job. It is amazing indeed.

I haven't heard Ballyhoo since I was a girl. Not something I would ever use.

I actually read about dogs sniffing for cancer patients a few weeks ago. Glad you shared it for trivia this week, dear Sandra.

Oh my..I use Ballyhoo often. I grew up with these words because my dad often used them. He was born in 1913. I might say that's a lot of bull...:)
Yes, I knew about the dogs. I watch TV Shows with animals and there has been more than one dog that kept sniffing at a person's body part to the point they went to the Dr and found out they had cancer. The drs were a.azed by it because it was caught early.

So much ballyhoo in parliament, it’s a wonder anything ever gets done. And yes, I did know that dogs are able to detect cancer. I shall feel smug for the rest of the day!
