In summary I think of ballyhoo as fuss. Noisy fuss.
I did know that some animals can smell cancer. And also identify other serious illnesses. There are a number of cases where animals that live in nursing homes identify (and go to comfort) people who are about to die.

I would have thought ballyhoo was an old fashioned word used in England.

I love words that are no longer in common usage, although they should be. I remember them from a previous time and of course love using them myself. Words like malarkey, contraption, folderol, and of course ballyhoo.

Oh my..I use Ballyhoo often. I grew up with these words because my dad often used them. He was born in 1913. I might say that's a lot of bull...:)
Yes, I knew about the dogs. I watch TV Shows with animals and there has been more than one dog that kept sniffing at a person's body part to the point they went to the Dr and found out they had cancer. The drs were a.azed by it because it was caught early.

So much ballyhoo in parliament, it’s a wonder anything ever gets done. And yes, I did know that dogs are able to detect cancer. I shall feel smug for the rest of the day!
