Happy Independence Day to you, dear Sandra. Having been to Philadelphia in the past, I knew it was the capital. I DID NOT know about the yellow fever. Great trivia question.

My goodness, I did not know about the yellow fever! This would be a great Jeopardy question. Hope you and your family are enjoying the Independence Day and staying cool. I've been fighting a cold, and plan to relax a little today. No cooking out for me, but i sure hope someone drops off a cheeseburger.(lol) Hugs, RO

I knew that Yellow Fever was very bad then, but I was unaware of how many it killed so I looked it up. The 1793 Yellow Fever epidemic in Philadelphia killed approximately 5,000 people in four months.

Love,
Janie

I knew that, and that NYC was also a temp capital for awhile.

Your post prompted me to check this out. Wow. Philadelphia. Got hit hard. Bloodletting in 1790?

Good for you for researching, Janie. Devastating wasn't it?
