Happy Independence Day to you, dear Sandra. Having been to Philadelphia in the past, I knew it was the capital. I DID NOT know about the yellow fever. Great trivia question.
My goodness, I did not know about the yellow fever! This would be a great Jeopardy question. Hope you and your family are enjoying the Independence Day and staying cool. I've been fighting a cold, and plan to relax a little today. No cooking out for me, but i sure hope someone drops off a cheeseburger.(lol) Hugs, RO
Oh my...nope, here in the South, they don't teach such stuff about Northerners...yankees...Hahaha But no, didn't know. Sounds like the Spanish Flu of 1918...terrible. Happy Independence Day sweet lady! hughugs
I knew that Yellow Fever was very bad then, but I was unaware of how many it killed so I looked it up. The 1793 Yellow Fever epidemic in Philadelphia killed approximately 5,000 people in four months.

Happy 4th of July! I did know that Philadelphia was the capital but didn’t know about yellow fever claiming so many lives...interesting.
Thanks, Val!

It was certainly a huge chunk of the populace wasn't it, Pat?

Love,

I knew that, and that NYC was also a temp capital for awhile.
Your post prompted me to check this out. Wow. Philadelphia. Got hit hard. Bloodletting in 1790?
Good for you for researching, Janie. Devastating wasn't it?
You're the history trivia man:)
It did get hit hard for sure.
I hope you had a great 4th of July Sandra! That is sad about Philadelphia! Thanks for the history! Big Hugs!
