Did You Know

Did you know, that Gary Cooper was originally offered the role of Rhett Butler in Gone With the Wind but turned it down because he thought the film would be a huge failure.  Sorry Gary.

I suppose Cooper would be better known now if he took the role but he was very popular at the time. But then maybe he would not have been as good as Gable.

Inflation-adjusted, it's the biggest money-maker ever.

Frankly, my dear, the role was never meant for him. Only Clark could ever be Rhett and the universe knew it.

I did not. But I'm glad he turned it down!

Once again, I did not know this. But I sure could never imagine Copper in the role.

I can't even imagine him as Rhett.

Things like that (missing the oportunity of a role, a song) happen all the time to well-known actors and singers. The loss of both money and fame is painful.

Andrew, Cooper was definitely well known, wasn't he?
Donna, Definitely:) Hugs received and returned.
CJ, I can't either. Gable owns that role.

Denise, Agree and agree:)

Hils, We do indeed, and not always for the better:)
Alex, Yes it is. Gary certainly miscalled that one. You know it might not have been the moneymaker it is, if Gable hadn't had the role.

Jamie, I couldn't either.
Christine, Glad you think so.
Denise, Agreed on both. Gable was made for that role.
DUTA, I've never come that close to either to miss it. Heh.
Val, Poor ole Gary.

Oh well. Live and learn? I wonder how many times roles that made it were refused by the actor?

Sorry for missing this one..I’ve been in too much pain. Yes, I knew this😁. They didn’t think to get Gable because he was with MGM. The Margaret Mitchell had Clark Gable in mind when she wrote it.
