A-Z: Himalayan

This is one of my favorite breeds. They are gentle and social. Himmies are a cross between Siamese and Persians.  From the Persians they receive their sweet temperament and long hair. From the Siamese their blue eyes and points. Himmies are the only Persians with points. These points are the darker colors on the tips of their fur and come in flame, lilac, chocolate and seal colors.
They do need some upkeep. Unless you plan on lion cuts, Himmies need constant grooming and their eyes washed daily.
Himalayans have short heads and flat faces, and prone to hairballs. On the plus side, they are  wonderful with children and good with other cats. If you don't mind the maintenance, they're a great pet.

They are certainly beautiful. I like the faces. I've heard of this breed before, but never saw one or even a photo of one until now. I take it Jo Bu belonged to you. That's always a sad remembrance.

They are truly lovely. The rainbow bridge has its anchor points in so many of our hearts doesn't it?

Hi, dear Sandra!

Christmas is coming and I want you to buy me a Himmie. Himmies make ideal stocking stuffers! :) I love their tiny size, attractive markings and designer colors. It must be a joy to own Himmies!

Have a great weekend, dear friend!

Your Jo kitty was beautiful.

Pretty, but too high maintenance

Adam said...

I've heard of them but I don't think I've seen one in person

Pat Hatt said...

There are like 4 or 5 of them at the other sea. The cat isn't a fan as he swats them lol

I think mine would sport a haircut as I'm not very good with brushing our short hair cat.

Pat Garcia said...

Oh but they are darlings. I like them but they would demand too much of my time because of the upkeep.
Good post.

I'll be happy to find one for you to adopt.....Smile.

We have good memories. He was always a happy boy.

Sandra Cox said...

Depends. Jo Bu was a doll face himmie. They don't have the smashed face and eye issues. And he got a lion cut every summer so he was low maintenance:)

Sandra Cox said...

He was so sweet. Everyone loved him.

Sandra Cox said...

It sure does, EC.

Strayer said...

I didn't know they were a cross between Siamese and Persian. But now I do. Thanks!

Sandra Cox said...

This is a repeat of Margaret's but the doll faces don't have the eye issues and the fur requires little maintenance when you get them a lion cut. I'd love to have another or a Silver Chinchilla Persian. They are just the sweetest cats.

Sandra Cox said...

They are a neat cat, Adam.

Sandra Cox said...

That Orlin:) I remember the pics.

Sandra Cox said...

I hear ya. Faux and Jo always got their 'summer cuts' but Faux now sports the natural look since at her age I don't like her getting anesthesia. And she wanted no part of the clippers while she was awake:)

Sandra Cox said...

Darlings sums them up:)

Sandra Cox said...

Hi Jeanie! They are pretty aren't they?

Lee said...

They're lovely cats...but then I love all cats. :)

Sandra Cox said...

You're a woman of impeccable taste:)

Sandra Cox said...

Not at all:) And they really aren't that bad, especially the doll faces.

Sandra Cox said...

I think so too:)

Himalayans are so sweet! I had one named Amanda when I was a kid. She once fell asleep in an empty fishbowl and looked like a big fluffy ball :)

Stephanie Faris said...

Pretty cat! The daily eye-washing would be a bit laborious, though! My dog hates having her face washed, so I can only imagine it wouldn't be easy to do every day.

Sandra Cox said...

Well said, Yvonne. They do each have their own beauty.

Sandra Cox said...

Thanks, Maarit, I think so too:)

Sandra Cox said...

Hi Steph,
Do you have to wash it every day?

Sandra Cox said...

Awww, that's adorable. I love himmies.

Sandra Cox said...

Yup. For the most part they've got the markings and blue eyes of the Siamese and temperament of the Persian. Great cats.

A beautiful breed! Thanks for sharing info about them.

Thanks, Magic:) Much appreciated.

They are cute and so sweet looking...I would take the blue colour which is more grey but oh well. The coat....have to comb that sucker constantly.

Himalayans are real Beauties. they shed a lot of hair & their blue eyes don't do well in sunshine. I almost wanted to buy sunglasses for mine, poor dear. She's gone now but I sure do miss her
