A-Z...Balinese

An offshoot of the Siamese, this cat has brains as well as beauty and is considered one of the smartest longhairs in the cat world.  With this intelligence comes unquenchable curiosity.  Translation: They're into everything. Balinese are recommended for seasoned cat owners and folks that don't mind brushing their felines a couple of times a week. If you don't want an animal that sheds all over the furniture, you probably don't want a Balinese.

The outstanding characteristics of the Balinese are their plumy tails and blue, almond-shaped eyes.

These beauties can live past twenty and have very few health issues. Interested in one? Please start with petfinders, overstock (Yes they do have an adoption center) or your local rescue.

I don't want an animal that sheds all over furniture, but I do like looking at that picture of the cute cat you posted.

Apart from the colouring of the coat, the physical characteristics are reminiscent of the beautiful Snow Leopard. They are from the same continent too.

Cute picture. Thanks for sharing.

If they are that smart, I wonder if they are trained to do tricks for movies? I don't recall seeing a cat that looked like that before though.

This sort looks gorgeous, never seen one in real life. Thanks for the infos. Hugs, Valerie

Hi, dear Sandra!

Those intelligent blue eyes...that sleek coat - what a beautiful breed of cat! I never owned a Balinese but I think it would be fun because I am a hands-on type of pet lover. I would give the kitty the attention and affection it craves.

Thank you for telling us about the Balinese, dear friend Sandra, and have a great weekend!

What a beautiful breed. I work full time so I don't feel I would be able to give a pet the attention they deserve at the minute, although I do have a couple of gold fish who don't seem to mind ;)

You had me until "brushing." My cats were banned from the house a few years ago due to all that hair.

Yolanda Renée said...

I'm allergic so the shedding would be bad for me. But I love the creatures!

Sandra Cox said...

I certainly understand on the shedding thing, Cynthia:)

Sandra Cox said...

I hadn't thought about it, but you're right, Tom.

Sandra Cox said...

Thanks for stopping by, Nicola.

Sandra Cox said...

Good point. I don't recall seeing them either, Alex. I have read that lots of the show and trick cats come directly out of shelters.

I once had a long haired angora and I had to brush him every day. Well, I think he was a bit spoiled as he enjoyed sitting on my lap while I brushed. haha

Sandra Cox said...

I agree, Val. He/she is a beauty.

First I've heard of that breed. Into everything is fine by me haha

Indeed:)

Thanks! You too, Yvonne.

I bet you're a good pet dad, Shady.

Fish can be quite entertaining:)

He sounds like he was a very happy kitty:)

Sandra Cox said...

Hi Pat,
He'd fit right in at your bay:)

I've never heard of Balinese before, but I swear you are describing my Squiggles, the ultimate alley cat. He is into everything and sheds on everything, too.

I am TRULY enjoying reading about different cats. They are such fun, aren't they?

Sandra Cox said...

Grin about Squiggles:)
Glad you are enjoying it:) Yes they are fun.

I can't see how they can moult anymore thoroughly than my common or garden black moggies. If I could only knit I could easily knit another cat each week.
They are beautiful cats and, like Siamese, fairly vocal.

Considering we have 5 cats and hair is the norm since I have to defer when I go to work, I could see us having one of these bundles of fun......but only when we no longer have 5 cats. I am close to being known as the cat lady.

Sandra Cox said...

Ha!
Yes indeed:)

Sandra Cox said...

I hear ya, Birgit. We're down to 3 and the dog. And I'm perfectly happy with that #.

Beautiful cat.
We used to have a cat long time ago, unfortunately we can't have now seeing as we are away from home so often.

Elizabeth said...

Wow, they live a long time! And what a great story of Meiko being returned home :)

Sharon Himsl said...

Meiko's microchip was important! I've never done this with my pets (none at the moment), but I will in the future!

Aww, beautiful kitty. I don't think I've ever met a Balinese, but the name always makes me think of Weiss Kreuz the anime because the main characters code names were all cats and one was Balinese :)

OMG that is beyond adorable!

Donna McDine said...

Wow I had no idea they could live to long! Beautiful!

Sandra Cox said...

Hi M-s,
You are right. It's tough to have a pet when you travel a lot.
Have a good one!

Sandra Cox said...

Always good to have a happy ending isn't it, Elizabeth?

Sandra Cox said...

Microchips are wonderful. And surprisingly, they aren't that pricey.

Sandra Cox said...

I like that! Using cats for character code names!

Sandra Cox said...

Glad you like it, Dez:)

Sandra Cox said...

It's amazing isn't it? I don't know the breed, but one lady told me her cat lived to 26. The longest any of mine have made it is 19.

Claire Annette said...

This is a beautiful cat but I don't think I'd like one that shed so much.

I wish dogs lived as long as some cats! My ex's grandmother bought one of those cats that can live something like 40 years? The grandmother was 70, so I'm not sure where her mind was with doing that!

So beautiful Sandra, wish I could have one.

Hi Sandra!

Elizabeth Varadan, Author said...

It's a beautiful cat, indeed. Right now we travel a lot, so we are not getting any pets until after we stop traveling. But I think we'll be leaning toward a dog -- and one that doesn't require too much brushing. I like your A-Z theme, though. We had a Siamese cat that lived for 19&1/2 years, and he was pretty smart. Lots of personality.

Sandra Cox said...

Shedding is an issue. Although, our short-haired dog sheds worse than our cats.

Sandra Cox said...

I haven't heard of that, Steph, so I'm unsure what breed. If you get any more info about it, please let me know.

Sandra Cox said...

Hi, Maarit:)
Are you allergic?

Sandra Cox said...

Grin.
How are you, Blue? Good to see ya:)

Sandra Cox said...

I hear ya. I usually breathe better when I sleep away from home.

Sandra Cox said...

Sounds like a plan. Good luck on the not too much brushing, though. Our short-haired dog sheds worse than the cats. You must have taken excellent care of your cat for him to have made it to 19.5. That's the longest I've had a cat live too. I bet he was personable and smart.

Magic Love Crow said...

Sandra, I have never seen a cat like this before! I want one! How beautiful! The longest cat we had was for 18 years. He was considered to be the "runt" of the family. A mixture of everything. He was a rescued cat. I loved him so much! I named him Falco.

Sandra Cox said...

I'm so glad you rescued Falco. Rescue is so important and the more 'good hearts' on board. The better.

They sure are!
