Did You Know

Did you know, there's a cafe  750 feet underground in the Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico?

This one is going on my bucket list.

Not for me. My claustrophobic self would not be at all happy.

230 metres for some of us. That is nearly 1/4 of a kilometre and probably one way out. I say nay. Funny how you become risk averse when you older and could possibly die at any tick of the clock anyway.

Hi Sandra - I wouldn't mind going down ... as long as there's space! Interesting to read about - cheers Hilary

I had heard that. Did you know the tiny town of Ellinwood, KS has tunnels under the buildings? In the old days, there were many speak easys, but most of the tunnels have been boarded up and now only a few are open to the public.

Here's some info:

Not as deep as the caverns, but fun to visit. One speak easy is open every Friday and Sat night for about 4 hours where you can buy drinks like they would have made during prohibition. If you want caverns, visit the Hutchinson, KS salt mines where you go down 600 ft to get to the display.

I did not know that, and I'm not sure how I'd feel about being there. It might make me uncomfortable.

Love,
Janie

Oh, never knew that. Sounds like fun, as long as there isn't 100 flights of stairs to it.

Janie, I could see how it would. Even though I'm fascinated with it, I'm not sure how I'd do.
Val, I get it. Hugs received and returned.
Birgit, Good point on the bat scat. Maybe that room is blocked off?
Elizabeth S, Heh. I imagine.
Christine, Indeed:)
Yvonne, I'm thrilled to hear from you. How are you?
Pat, I am so sorry. I went to your blog but couldn't leave a comment.

I didn't know that! I have gone down about 200 feet in a cavern, it had an elevator and then you walked down some more. I think the elevator and a crawl space were the only way out. So, I'd say that is too deep for me. haha But, good for those who are more adventurous.

Nope. :)

Yikes, True. I'm not sure I'd want to do a crawl space in a cavern either.

Lee, Glad you stopped by and hope you are doing well.
